Can’t Wait Wednesday| You Say It First – Katie Cotugno

We wanted to do another bookish meme on Wednesday and after doing Can’t Wait Wednesday a few times we decided that would be a fun one to bring around more often! About twice a month you’ll see this meme on our blog.

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

Meg has her entire life set up perfectly: her boyfriend Mason is sweet and supportive, she and her best friend Emily plan to head to Cornell together in the fall, and she even finds time to clock shifts phonebanking at a voter registration call center in her Philadelphia suburb. But everything changes when one of those calls connects her to a stranger from small-town Ohio, who gets under her skin from the moment he picks up the phone.
Colby is stuck in a rut, reeling from a family tragedy and working a dead-end job—unsure what his future holds, or if he even cares. The last thing he has time for is some privileged rich girl preaching the sanctity of the political process. So he says the worst thing he can think of and hangs up.
But things don’t end there.…
That night on the phone winds up being the first in a series of candid, sometimes heated, always surprising conversations that lead to a long-distance friendship and then—slowly—to something more. Across state lines and phone lines, Meg and Colby form a once-in-a-lifetime connection. But in the end, are they just too different to make it work?
You Say It First is a propulsive, layered novel about how sometimes the person who has the least in common with us can be the one who changes us most.

First of all I have to start off by saying how much I love this cover! I’m really loving the illustrated covers these days. Hopefully this stays a thing! As for the story it also sounds really cute. I’m a big contemporary fan and You Say it First seems like the perfect book for me.

Books with text messages, e-mails, long distance friendshipes, etc. are books I really love. It’s interesting to see the characters connect. Sometimes you’ll find support from places you least expect. Opposites attract and see things that people close to you may not. Also, getting closer to the elections, the political aspect in this book could be interesting.

The only thing that bugs me is that I have to wait until June to get my hands on this book! What do you think of the sypnopsis? Is this a book you’ll read? I’ve never read anything by Katie Contugno, so I’m really curious!

    1. I don’t mind politics, but it depends on how it’s done. Also, I don’t want it to take over the whole story.

      1. Yeah. Definitely. Here’s a question I would like to know (but we obviously don’t have the answer to), would this book be good for someone like me to read who doesn’t particularly know much about politics and would like to learn more, but in a fun way that doesn’t feel like I’m reading a textbook or having super biased opinions? You know what I mean?
