We thought it was time for a fun new post every week. In the Royal Update one of us updates you about our personal life, bookish news, what we’re reading, watching and listening to and anything else that might apply to this post. We thought it would be fun to share a bit more about our personal lives and hope you think so too!
These past two weeks haven’t been very exciting, but I did do a few fun things. Mostly I’ve just been busy with work. The last two days before Christmas are going to be exhausting, so hopefully they’ll go by quickly, I’m looking forward to spending Christmas with my boyfriend and Mom.
Speaking of my mother, I went to Utrecht with her to go shopping and look around. It’s one of my favorite cities to shop in here in The Netherlands. I just love the atmosphere and everything that’s there. It was all decorated for Christmas and that made me very happy. They also had a Christmas store there, so I was definitely a happy one while being there.
Other than that and working, I’ve been trying to get some stuff done for the blog. We have a lot of fun end of the year posts we want to share, but they definitely take some time to write. So in between work, I’ve slowly been getting stuff done. After going to Utrecht, I came home and my package for the Secret Santa Isabelle and I are participating in was delivered. We can’t open the boxes until Christmas Eve, but I’m very excited. The box is now upstairs, because as you can see, the cats love it a bit too much!
This week was really busy, because on top of working, our cat had to go see the vet again. She has a spot on her paw where she licked and bit off the fur. This happened at the end of October as well, so we’re trying to figure out what it is. It’s either stress (changes in the house with the tree and there’s construction near our house) or it’s an allergy. So we’re kind of hoping just stress. I couldn’t resist sharing this picture of her dressed up. It’s the only way she won’t lick her paw when we put medication on it. A few more days to go! Hopefully it’s the last time!
And last, but not least, I had game night on Saturday. We get together once a month to play board games together and hang out. Saturday we played The Reckoners (a game based on the books by Brandon Sanderson). I still don’t completey understand it, but it’s always fun to play!
I so failed at not collecting a lot of ARCs. Since my last Royal Update, I’ve added seven ARCs to my collection and have gotten an e-mail I’ll receiving a couple in the next week or so. January is really packed with this, but I really hope to make my own TBR more of a priority after that.
Asking for a Friend by Lauren Blakely is a book I’ve already read and reviewed! It was so much fun. I started it last weekend and was finished the same day I started it. The main characters love books and it’s everything I needed in a romantic comedy.
Of Curses and Kisses is the first book in the St. Rosetta’s Academy series. I’ve heard of this one before and am actually really excited. Of Curse and Kisses is a Beauty and the Beast retelling and releases in February. Readers that have read this one have been excited, so I’m thankful for getting this one.
Belle Revolte is another book I’ve heard a lot about. The cover is also stunning and I was lucky to grab this one when it was Read Now on Netgalley. This is another February release, so I still have some time to read it!
Keystone actually caught my eye when I saw the cover. After reading the story involved a secret school for thieves I was curious. I love when books take place at schools or when there’s secrest and such. This is a January release, so you’ll hopefully be able to find a review on the blog soon.
Ionic Attraction is another book that takes place at an academy for teens. This sounds like something I’ll really enjoy, but I’m not completely sure. According to Goodreads, it’s only 200 pages, so I should fly through this one!
Promised by Prom is the third and final book in the Squad Goals series. I’ve been looking forward to reading more about Nora and the goals she plans on working on. The first two books were a lot of fun and it took me no time at all to read them. I’m sad this is the last book in the series.
The Bridesmaid & Her Surprise Love is also the third and final book in the Wedding Games trilogy and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out. The reality show aspect in this story makes everything a lot of fun. There have been a lot of twists and turns I wasn’t expecting!
These past two weeks I’ve finished 9 books. As I mentioned in my previous update, I finished The Boyfriend Blog, The City of Brass, The Wicked King and Lesson for Two. I enjoyed all of these books! I won’t talk about these too much, because our wrap up will be posted at the beginning of January.
I also read Spark and Sorrow, Cub and Asking for a Friend. I already reviewed Spark and Sorrow and Asking for a Friend. My review for Cub will be online at the beginning of January as part of the blog tour that’s been organized.
During my commute on the bus and the little walk I have to get to work, I listen to audiobooks. It’s only a couple of hours a week, but it still makes it possible to read a few extra books a month! I listened to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Technically, You Started It. I enjoyed both of these books. It was also fun listening to the Harry Potter audiobook. It’s definitely still my favorite series.
As for what’s next on my TBR, I’m currently reading The Kingdom of Copper and Never Lasting. In the next couple of weeks I really want to start Foul is Fair and Get a Life, Chloe Brown. I’ve actually started Get a Life, Chloe Brown, but I’m only a few chapters in!
I don’t have as much bookish news to share as last time, but there are a few things! First, Jennifer L. Armentrout announced the title and release date for the final book in the Origin series. I read the first book and loved it! The sequel is on my wishlist for this Christmas.
On Twitter, I saw the announcement for this book! I loved Red, White and Royal Blue and after reading what Honey Girl is about, I’m sold. There isn’t a release date yet, but I’ll be keeping an eye out!
Well Met is a book I’m really excited about reading, so I was really happy to see that the author got a book deal to give us more in this series.
Like last time, I can actually say I didn’t buy anything new. I haven’t even bought myself a book this month!! I’m very proud of myself, haha. The only thing I bought were Christmas presents that I can’t talk about.
I haven’t watched a lot of TV shows the past couple of weeks. I’ve been addicted to Christmas movies. This is really my favorite time of year, so I get behind on all of my favorite shows, because of all of the movies I want to see.
One of my favorites this year was A Gift to Remember 2. I know all of these movies are predictable, but I love the warm and cozy feeling they bring! I could watch them all year long.
I’ve actually been listening to the *NSYNC Christmas album for the last few days. They were one of my favorite boybands and I’m participating in Boybandathon in January.Trying to get ready for that. I love when music brings back memories.
So that was my Royal Update for this week. How has your week been? If you’ve watched or read anything really interesting, I’d love to hear about it. And if you celebrate Christmas, Merry Christmas! I hope everyone has an amazing week!
I also got a copy of Belle Revolte. I’m excited to start it because I loved Miller’s Mask of Shadows. 🙂 Happy reading!
