TTT #87 | Auto Buy Authors

We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is a character freebie and I just didn’t have any inspiration. However, I saw Candyce’s topic for next week and really wanted to do that one as well. So I’m taking a head start on next week and will talk about my Auto Buy Authors!

This was actually a bit of a difficult one! I do have some auto buy authors, but not as many as I thought I had. So I really had to think if these were all authors I would pick up their newest book without even looking what it was about. And I’m pretty sure these are the 10 I would do that with!

1.J.K. Rowling

Of course J.K. Rowling is my number one auto buy author. This is mostly for Harry Potter related stuff. But I also enjoyed her books she wrote has Robert Galbraith and this reminds me I need to read the rest of that series soon. J.K. Rowling will always have a special place in my heart thanks to HP and I hope she writes something completely new soon!

2.Sarah J. Maas

As you hopefully know by now, Throne of Glass is one of my favorite series ever. I also really enjoyed the ACOTAR series and I’m looking forward to Sarah’s new, adult fantasy series. While there are definitely flaws in Sarah’s work, I still believe her writing is super addictive and I love the characters she created. I really hope these elements will play a part in her new book.

3.V.E. Schwab

By now I’ve read quite some Schwab books and I can honestly say I’m a fan. I do still have one of her books unread and I’m ashamed of that haha. But her worlds are all very unique and I think she has such a creative mind. I also adore her on social media, she’s so honest about all her insecurities and I love her even more for it. This is an author I always want to support.

4. Leigh Bardugo

One of my favorite writers and the author of one my most beloved series and worlds ever. I adore the Grishaverse and can’t wait for the Netflix series to be released. Hopefully we’ll get some more details soon. Leigh’s new book comes out this fall and I’m really looking forward to it. It will be very different from the Grishaverse but that’s okay. I’m sure it will be amazing!

5. Karin Slaughter

My favorite thriller writer! Karin writes such gruesome books, it’s insane. I was kinda scared when I met her haha, but she is just a lovely lady! And I really need to read her last 2 books, I do even own them. When I was younger I used to read thrillers almost all the time and these were super addictive.

6. Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Now I feel a little bit guilty about this one… I adore Jennifer and I have read almost all of her books. However, I don’t own a single one. For various reasons I never actually bought one, but I do hope to change that soon. All of the books that are currently announced for JLB I love and I can’t wait to read all of them!

7.Cassandra Clare

I know a lot of people can’t stand the Shadowhunterworld anymore and hate that Cassandra keeps adding to the plot. For me however, I love this world and I don’t mind reading more in it. I’m very eagerly awaiting the Wicked Powers so you can bet I will be reading Cassandra Clare for years to come. And if she does decided she wants to write something else, I’d be happy to pick up!

8.Jay Kristoff

This one felt a little bit weird to include. I haven’t really read anything by just him. However, I’m currently reading (and loving) Nevernight and I also own LIFEL1K3. Jay’s coauthored series with Amy Kaufman are amazing and I hope they keep up the good work. But I think I also love Jay’s work! I’m super excited for his next books, scary vampires!

9.Kendare Blake

This is were it got really hard. I love love love Kendare’s Three Dark Crowns series and I can’t believe we’re getting the conclusion this year. Anna Dressed in Blood was very different but also enjoyable. So I guess I would take a look at what Kendare writes next, but if I even remotely seems like something I will buy it!

10.Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, Jodi Meadows

I have only read something by Cynthia alone, but this trio I have read 2 books by. And obviously I loved My Lady Jane and My Plain Jane like everyone else. It would be so wonderful if we got more books after My Calamity Jane. And I don’t need anything special or expensive. Just to read more books from this trio of the most wonderful stuff ever. Fingers crossed they’re doing another book series like this!

So these were my 10 picks for this week! What topic did you go for this time around? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I’m a big Kendare Blake fan now thanks to her Three Dark Crowns books. Cassandra Clare is an author I’ve though about trying as well, since Shadowhunters seems to be so loved.

    1. Yes, her Three Dark Crowns series is definitely what made we such a fan of her work. I can’t wait for the last book <3
I adore the Shadowhunters books, but you might have to push through those first books as they don’t hold up that well haha.

  2. Reading through these I realize my auto-buy authors are all gone — no new books from Jane Austen and Maya Angelou!

However, I have several “auto wanna buy” but don’t usually get around to it for years authors: Roxane Gay, Faith Erin Hicks, Toni Morrison, Stephen King, Margaret Atwood…

    1. Haha auto wanna buy counts just fine in my opinion!! Some great authors on your list right there, some of them I really need to pick up

  3. I admit, I haven’t read most of this list, but I count this post as one more reason I should push these authors up on my TBR!

  4. I actually only have two auto-buy authors, but Leigh Bardugo and Cassandra Clare will be on my list next week as authors I buy or read most of my books.

And it wouldn’t be a Top Ten Tuesday without me saying (at least once) that I still need to get cracking on reading one of VE Schwab’s books. I keep buying them!
