Sawyer Bennett is a new to me author. I have read a few of her books, but I didn’t know she also wrtote under another name. Today the book Gimme Some Sugar releases under her other pen name Juliette Poe. Definitely something that sounds like a perfect summer read. Today I am going to tell you what I thought of this book and there’s also a giveaway that runs until June 17th. A big thanks to the author for providing an ARC to read and review.

Review:
Gimme Some Sugar is the first book I’ve read in the Sex and Sweet Tea series and it didn’t disappoint. I could tell that if you’ve read the previous book, this one does give you some updates. That didn’t really make me miss anything in the story, but really made me want to go back and pick up the first four.
Gimme Some Sugar takes place in Whynot, North Carolina (I love the name of this small town). From what the author describes it’s your typical small town and she made me want to go and live there! I love reading about small towns and this one has ended pretty high on my list!
Larkin grew up in this town and is really close with her family. She’s worked hard the past few years to run her own bakery and now she also owns a part of a B&B. Larkin is one busy lady. While she wants love, she hasn’t really had the time to look, but it definitely finds her.
Deacon is a retired marine and isn’t one to stay still for too long. He travels where his work takes him (that he looks for as he travels) and is enjoying his life. Deacon isn’t close to his family and really doesn’t see himself settling down. That is until he meets Larkin. Deacon is such a sweet guy. He’s protective, trustworthy and honest. Except when it comes to his own feelings, things can get tricky.
I loved the connection Deacon and Larkin had from the start and in a book like this, we knew how it would all end. How we’d get to the ending is always a surprise and I really enjoyed this journey. Both characters feel something and want to explore the connection even if it doesn’t last. The romance moves pretty fast in this story (I mean, he ends up staying at her house within a couple of weeks), but it didn’t feel like insta-love. The author made it seem really natural.
Gimme Some Sugar is a romance with a little drama to get us to the happily ever after, but this wasn’t too much. It felt like something that would actually happen and I loved how it ended before getting out of hand. The only thing I would’ve liked a bit more was exploring everything with Deacon’s family. They end up there, but it falls a bit flat afterward. I get he’s not going to have a close relationship all of a sudden, but I would’ve liked more updates in between there and the ending. And I have to say I loved the diary entries during this book. Really fit this story.
If you’re looking for a cute small town romance without a lot of drama, definitely pick up Gimme Some Sugar. On top of that this book gives us amazing characters, lots of humor and a really fun journey!

Gimme Some Sugar was the fifth book in the Sex & Sweet Tea series, but I didn’t feel like I was missing out. I have a feeling this whole series will be perfect for reading while lounging by the pool or at the beach. Have you read anything in this series? What did you think?
This looks interesting, I’m going to try the first one since it’s FREE!
