Unboxing| Birthday Books

If you’ve been following the blog, you know that we give each other birthday and Christmas boxes. Last Christmas we realized it’s harder thinking of fun goodies to add to these boxes, so for our birthdays this year, we kept the same budget, but decided to only buy books for each other. So today we have the unboxing of our birthday books!

Candyce

When I had to make my wishlist it was pretty hard. There are a lot of books out right now that I want to read. I always add a lot to my list, so it’s still a surprise when we exchange gifts. I got five books from Isabelle and I love them all! Let’s take a look.

Two Can Keep a Secret – Karen M. McManus

I have read One of Us is Lying and I enjoyed the story. The ending disappointed me a bit, but I am still really curious about this book. Isabelle has already read it and said it wasn’t that bad. Also, it has colored edges like my copy of One of Us is Lying and that makes me very happy!

Enchantée – Gita Trelease

Last year I read a few historical fiction books and really enjoyed them. Enchantée also sounded like one I knew I’d enjoy. Paris in the late 1700s and a main character who transforms herself into someone else. Adding magic to a place like Paris is always interesting! I love this UK cover!

Truly Devious – Maureen Johnson

I don’t know why I didn’t ask for Truly Devious until now. After reading some thrillers/mysteries last year, they really got my interest. I know plenty of people who have read this one and enjoyed it (Isabelle included). The second book isn’t out in paperback yet, but it probably will be by the time I read this one, haha.

The Bone Witch – Rin Chupeco

Another book that I’ve seen everywhere, but just haven’t gotten around to getting. I love the cover and the line on the cover “Let me be clear, I never intended to raise my brother from his grave”, definitely caught my attention!

Heart of Thorns – Bree Barton

Heart of Thorns wasn’t really on my radar except for me thinking the cover was amazing. After seeing the cover to the sequel (that’s stunning as well), I became pretty curious. The sypnopsis sounds like something I would enjoy and a couple of friends have enjoyed reading it. Isabelle got this from a bookbox, so we will buddyreading this one eventually!

Isabelle

I kept adding books to my wishlist and had trouble limiting the list haha. This made it quite the surprise as to which books Candyce would pick. She ended up gifting me 5 books and I am super happy with her choices. I actually already read the first and can’t wait to get to the rest!

The Archies and Other Stories – Matthew Rosenberg

The first book is this comic bind-up of stories in the Archieverse and I loved adding this to my collection. I already read and reviewed this one because I just had to dive in right away! My comics collection is slowly growing and it makes me so happy Candyce picked up one for me.

LIKEL1K3 – Jay Kristoff

Like last gift box Candyce included a Jay Kristoff book! I was not surprised to find this one in here at all haha. Candyce already read and enjoyed this one so I’m happy I own this one now as well. I really enjoyed the Illuminae files series and I plan on reading Nevernight soon. Hopefully Jay Kristoff will be a favorite author of mine after reading these.

The Magic Misfits – Neil Patrick Harris

Another not so surprising pick haha. Candyce adored this MG fantasy and I knew I had to get this quick read as well. We have something planned for May and I’m pretty sure I will read this one then. I love reading MG fantasy novels and hope this one will live up to my expectations.

The Winner’s Curse – Marie Rutkoski

This one has been on my wishlists FOREVER! I’m so happy I finally own it haha. It has been quite a while since this one was released so I’m definitely late to the party but I’m expecting to enjoy this one a lot.

Senlin Ascends – Josiah Bancroft

This book has been on my radar for quite awhile but recently resurfaced after seeing some very positive reviews for the sequels. I love the cover with all the details and hope this adult fantasy is as cool as it’s cover is.

That was our birthday unboxing for this year! Have you read any of the books we received? What did you think?

    1. So weird to see names like that as the author of a book right? I have high hopes for it 😀
