Bookish Beginnings on Friday | The Heart and the Hawthorn – Laura Coleman

We have a lot of eARC’s and we want to promote them a little bit more. So we decided to do some more Bookish Beginnings On Friday. Today I wanted to share the start of The Heart and the Hawthorn by Laura Coleman. This is my latest eARC and it sounds really cute. Let’s see how it all starts!

What if life was always rainbows and unicorns?

Frida always wanted to be a zookeeper at the London Extraordinary Zoo, caring for endangered magical creatures. And while the LEZ’s unicorns and ghost lynxes are incredible, she can’t wait to meet the zoo’s newest resident: a baby dragon. His enclosure is perfect, his food is prepped, and everyone is ready for anything.

Well, maybe not anything. They’re definitely not ready for the magical storm that arrives with the dragon; a storm that releases a powerful (and extremely gorgeous) tree fairy, who casts a sleeping spell over the zoo and everyone in it. Everyone except for Frida.

Saving the LEZ seems like an impossible task, but Frida knows that nothing is impossible. Her quest takes her on a wild adventure into the past, where she realises there are more important things worth saving than the zoo . . .

The day it all went to shit, Frida Rose was knee-deep in unicorn dung. Not that this was unusual. She was, after all, a zookeeper and dung came with the territory. But contrary to popular belief, unicorns did not smell like freshly baked cinnamon buns. They smelled like… well, shit.

This is a pretty good opening in my opinion! I immediately wanted to read the rest of the chapter and actually didn’t stop until halfway through chapter 2. This book sounds really cute and magical and I think I will be in the mood for it soonish. I have been reading more (at least this past week!) and I think the vibes of this one will be going great with spring!

So far I haven’t heard anyone talking about this book yet, but I hope to see some reviews soon. Had you heard about The Heart and the Hawthorn yet? Do you like the start of the book? Let me know down below!
