Looking Back at Our Bookhauls | December 2024

Today is time for our first looking back at our bookhauls post of 2026! The December bookhaul can be a bit much, so let’s take a look at what we received in December 2024 and how much of the books we’ve read. Keep on reading to find out!

Candyce

In December 2024 I added 28 books to my shelves and I’m almost scared to see how many I’ve actually read, haha. Let’s take a look!

A Language of Dragons – S.F. Williamson
Unread

I haven’t read A Language of Dragons yet, but I did just grab the audiobook to finally sit down and read this one. Immersive reading really is my main way of reading these days. The sequel of this one releases in a week or two, so hopefully I can dive right into book two.

Heavenly Bodies – Errui
Read

Heavenly Bodies is a book that had so much hype part of me was afraid to pick this one up. I decided to finally sit down and read this one last year and I’m glad I did. This book lived up to its hype and then some. I’m very excited about the sequel.

Quicksilver – Callie Hart
Read

Another hyped book I was a bit scared of, but that I ended up loving. I read this during my time off of work in September. The second book released recently, so I should make time to pick it up before I lose too many details and have to reread.

The Bright Sword – Lev Grossman
Read

The Bright Sword was my in person book club read for January, so I definitely read this one. While I did have a good time with this one, I do feel like it could’ve been shorter.

An Ember in the Ashes – Sabaa Tahir
Read

Like I said in this December haul, I had read this entire series, but I wanted the new paperback editions. They really are so floppy! I still need to get the fourth and final book for my shelves.

Kingmakers: Year Three – Sophie Lark
Unread

Like I said last month, I was collecting the first print of this series. I really need to make time to curl up and binge this series.

God of Wrath – Rina Kent
Unread

I’m still working on Rina Kent’s backlist and that has a specific reading order. There are a few series for me to get to before I can pick these up. Like the Kingmakers series, I wanted the first print of these books for the pretty sprayed edges.

Make the Season Bright – Ashley Herring Blake
Read

As I said in our bookhaul, Make the Season Bright was my swoonalong read of the month, so I had to read it. Ashley Herring Blake is one of my favorite authors and I had a good time with this holiday romance.

Wicked – Gregory Maguire
Unread

So I actually bought this for my Discord book club because it was voted to be a group read. I was really excited to read Wicked, but then I heard from some of my buddies that it’s a bit slow. While I still want to get to this one, I need to find some motivation, haha.

Reckless – Lauren Roberts
Read

Powerless was a bit of a disappoint for me, but I was still curious enough to try the sequel. Reckless didn’t improve much in my opinion. While I get the romance plays a big part in the series, that’s basically all this book was. I will read the third book because I already own it, but this definitely isn’t a favorite of mine.

Not Another Love Song & Forget Me Not – Julie Soto
Unread

Another case of I really need to read both of these and I just got the audiobooks. I enjoyed Rose in Chains, so it’s time to try her contemporary romances.

The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy – Megan Bannen
Unread

The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy is a book I hear nothing but amazing things about, so I added this to my wishlist. Now I just need to sit down and read it. Now I remember why my biggest reading goal this year is my physical backlist, haha.

The Prison Healer – Lynette Noni
Read

The Prison Healer ended up being a series slayers read in 2025 and I had a great time with this book. There were so many twists and turns I didn’t see coming! All in all, the trilogy was fun but the third book was a bit of a let down.

You, Again – Kate Goldbeck
Unread

You, Again is another book I’ve been so excited about reading but just still haven’t read. In November I read Daddy Issues by this author and loved it, so that has me more motivated to sit down with this book soon.

Beach Read – Emily Henry
Read

Emily Henry is a favorite author of mine but I didn’t own Beach Read. I really am due for a reread. I’ve also heard the US and UK ending are different? I’m not sure if that’s true.

The Only Pirate at the Party – Lindsey Stirling
Unread

I’ve seen Lindsey Stirling twice in concert and still haven’t read this book. Just like a couple of other books from this bookhaul, I do now have access to the audiobook. It’s not very long, so it should be one I read in one go.

The Ex Vows – Jessica Joyce
Read

Just like You, with a View, I loved The Ex Vows! This was a second chance romance and an emotional one at times. These two characters finding each other again had me hooked.

Behind the Net & That Kind of Guy – Stephanie Archer
Unread

Stephanie Archer is still one of the authors on the top of my need to read authors list. I am determined to get to these in 2026!

Honey Cut – Sierra Simone
Unread

Like I said, Salt Kiss was a pleasant surprise for me. I think part of me has been afraid to pick up Honey Cut for this reason. Also, because a third character is going to be added to the romance developed in the first book. I do have the audiobook, so I am going to finally see what it’s all about.

This Summer Will Be Different – Carley Fortune
Unread

Last year, I said I’d read this during the summer. I didn’t. I read Carley Fortune’s 2025 release instead, haha. Even though we just got snow, I do want to read This Summer Will Be Different this month.

A Novel Love Story – Ashley Poston
Read

A Novel Love Story was actually my first read of 2026! The idea of entering your favorite fictional town is one I always find interesting. I had a great time with this story and I kind of wish Ashley would write the series this town is based on, haha. I enjoyed these characters.

How to End a Love Story – Yulin Kuang
Unread

I accidentally kind of forgot about How to End a Love Story. Not because I don’t want to read this book anymore, but I guess I have too much to choose from at times? Another reason why my physical backlist is my biggest goal this year. Reading some older books in December made me realize how many gems I probably have on my shelves.

Rivals & Reign – Katharin McGee
Read/Unread

I was late to the game with this series, but I loved the first two books. A couple of months ago I finally read Rivals and it kind of ends on a cliffhanger. Reign is one on my TBR to read soon. I can’t believe I’ll be caught up with this series.

Midnight is the Darkest Hour – Ashley Winstead
Unread

Midnight is the Darkest Hour was put a bit on the backburner, but after reading Say It Out Loud that also had some Twilight vibes, I’m even more excited to pick this one up.

Hopeless – Elsie Silver
Read

I binged the Chestnut Springs series in a couple of months and I loved these books. Beau’s story was one I was excited to finally get. It was emotional as I expected it to be. I’m glad I finished this series.

End Result:
Read: 12/28 – 42.9%
TBR: 16/28 – 57.1%

Isabelle

I only got audiobooks in December 2024, so those are what we will be talking about! Since I usually listen to the audiobooks I get fairly soon after getting them I have pretty good hopes for this post. Let’s take a look!

The Seven Year Slip – Ashley Poston
Read

Everyone was raving about this book, so when it was on sale I had to try it. I enjoyed Ashley Poston books before this one so I had good hopes. While I did enjoy it, I didn’t love it as much as everyone else seemed to do.

Spellslinger & Shadowblack – Sebastien de Castell
Read/Unread

I have owned a copy of Spellslinger for years and it took me getting the audiobook to finally read it. It was a lot of fun and I planned on listening to Shadowblack soon after, but I haven’t done it yet. Hopefully this year!

When the Moon Hatched – Sarah A. Parker
Read

Another one that I had on my physical TBR. I started the physical book, but it was pretty hard to get through the first chapters. For me it works really well to go the audiobook route in cases like that and that’s what I did for this one. I liked the book a lot and I’m excited for the sequel!

End Result:
Read: 3/4 – 75%
TBR: 1/4 – 25%

So that’s the first looking back at our bookhauls post of the year! Have you read any of these? Or how are you doing with your TBR? Let us know in the comments. We’d love to hear from you.
