Bookish Item | Goodreads Choice Awards: Which Books Did I Read?

It’s that time of the year! The first round of the Goodreads Choice Awards is live. I was really curious to see if I had read any of the nominees. This year I’ve reread a lot of books and I wasn’t sure how many 2025 releases I read. So let’s take a look and see which nominees I did read!

We Are All Guilty Here – Karin Slaughter

Karin Slaughter is one of my favorite writers and I have read almost all her mystery/thrillers. This one is the start of a new series and I really enjoyed it. I’m not surprised it’s on the list at all haha.

The Missing Half – Ashley Flowers

As a CrimeJunkie I had to read Ashley Flowers’ newest book. I enjoyed her first book, but the ending wasn’t really to my liking. This second book has a bit of a similar ending, but this one I did really enjoy! Since Crime Junkie is a huge podcast, I’m not surprised Ashley’s book is on the list.

Onyx Storm – Rebecca Yarros

This series and this book has been everywhere, so of course I had to be on the list. I was really looking forward to this release. And I ended up enjoying it a lot. Yes, it doesn’t seem like we made much progress, but I laughed and cried with this book and that is always a good sign.

Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil – V.E. Schwab

I’m a big fan of V.E. Schwab, both as an author and a human. And I was very excited to read her newest book. A long, slow book all about the characters and I loved it a lot. This was about history, about becoming villains and it was all written beautifully.

Automatic Noodle – Annalee Newitz

This was a pleasant surprise! I love Tordotcom novella’s and this was a great one. It reminded me that I have another Annalee Newitz book to read still on my shelves. This wasn’t one I was expecting to see on the Goodreads Choice Awards, but I’m glad it is getting the praise it deserves.

Sunrise on the Reaping – Suzanne Collins

There was no way I was skipping this one! I still remember reading The Hunger Games very clearly and I have always been curious about Haymitch’s Games. This one was written extremely well and I can’t wait for the movie. I would love to get another book in this universe.

These are the books I have read. In most categories I have read only one book. So I’m not sure if I will vote just yet. I am curious to see which book will win though! Maybe I’ll do another post with my predictions. Which Goodreads Choice Awards nominees have you read? Let me know down below!
