In my last Show Sunday post I talked about the newest 9-1-1 show; 9-1-1 Nashville. In the past I have talked about the original 9-1-1 and 9-1-1 Lone Star. With this newest addition to the franchise, I thought it would be a good time to talk about all three of them. Let’s jump in!
I started watching 9-1-1 in 2018, now we are on the 9th season! For those who don’t know; 9-1-1 is mostly about a fire station and the medical team working there, but it also shows a cop and someone working at the 9-1-1 call centre. It’s about (crazy) cases, but it is also about the people we follow and their relationships. I would say that is what is at the heart of the show and why so many people have fallen in love with the show. Personally I love these characters dearly and would say it’s one of my comfort shows.

In 2020 we got a ‘spin-off’ with 9-1-1 Lone Star. The original 9-1-1 takes place in Los Angeles, and Lone Star is set in Austin, Texas. It followed the same format and had that heart and soul with amazing characters as well. After 5 seasons it ended last February and I was pretty sad about it to be honest. I have shed many tears over the main characters and their stories, but also about some of the cases we came across. In the end though, the main characters were relatively safe, even against insane odds. So while the stakes were high, in the back of your mind you knew your favourites were probably safe.

9-1-1 Nashville is the newest addition to the franchise and straight away started with some unbelievable cases haha. To me it feels like this show will be more about the family drama than anything else. There is also another switch up from the first two shows, instead of a cop, we get a doctor at the hospital. I’m really curious to see how that changes the dynamics of the show. Like I said, it seems like this show is more about the drama between the characters than anything else, to me it makes it feel like a completely different show. There has been a bit of a focus on music as well, as a Nashville based show should have haha.

In my last Show Sunday I talked about not wanting to continue watching 9-1-1 because I knew a death was coming. In the end I did decide to watch those episodes and I cried my eyes out. I saw someone comment why they were so mad about the death and I could totally see where they were coming from. Like I said, this is a comfort show of mine and in the back of your mind you know the main characters will survive. A tsunami, rebar through the skull, earthquakes, getting shot and stabbed are just a couple of the things that happened to them and they all survived. And now we lost a main character to a disease, it was said to be done for realism, but nothing about the show is realistic so that feels very misplaced in season 8. This won’t be a comfort show for a lot of people anymore. I’m not sure if this decision means more characters might die or if this one death will forever feel out of place in the series. For now I will continue watching the show, but I’m definitely upset about the death. This is not the Chicago franchise where you got death after death after death haha. We will see how it will continue in the coming season!
Do you watch the 9-1-1 franchise? Do you agree with my views of it? And are you watching 9-1-1 Nashville? I would love to hear from you down below!
