Bookish Item | The Executioners Three – Susan Dennard

We have a lot of eARC’s and we want to promote them a little bit more. So we decided to do some more Bookish Beginnings On Friday. Today I wanted to share the beginning of The Executioners Three by Susan Dennard. I have just started my eARC and since the book was released a little over 2 weeks ago I figured this was the perfect time to take a look at the beginning of the story! Let’s jump in!

From New York Times bestselling author Susan Dennard comes The Executioners Three, a mystery filled with rivalry, romance, best friends, and a gruesome curse that dates back centuries.

Freddie Gellar didn’t mean to get half the rival high school arrested. She’d simply heard shrieks coming from the woods, so she’d called the cops like any good human would do. How was she supposed to know it was just kids partying?

Except the next day, a body is found. And while the local sheriff might call it suicide, Freddie’s instincts tell her otherwise. So, like the aspiring sleuth (and true X-Filesaficionado) she is, Freddie sets out to prove there’s a murderer at large.

Theo Porter had just rounded the curve by City-on-the-Berme Park – that sharp turn with all the woods and the steep slope down to the lakeshore – when bam! Two baby raccoons came scuttling through the fog and into his headlights. Theo hit the brakes and yanked the steering wheel left. The two raccoons had frozen, their eyes latched onto his low beams…

The story doesn’t start off super exciting, but I can tell you it does get a bit creepy right away haha. We also get a kind of poem that gives off a pretty creepy vibe. I somehow was drawn in right away! After reading about 10% I can say I like our main character Freddie and I’m really curious to see what happens next. Apparently there is a curse and I can’t wait to find out how that happened and what the curse is all about.

So far I think this is the perfect fall read, it has small town vibes and the curse makes it spooky. I’m really excited to continue reading the book and I hope the rest will be up to my expectations. The Susan Dennard books I’ve read so far were amazing so I have high hopes!
