We wanted to do another bookish meme on Wednesday and after doing Can’t Wait Wednesday a few times we decided that would be a fun one to bring around more often! About twice a month you’ll see this meme on our blog.
Can’t Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
MEET YOUR NEW EPIC FANTASY OBSESSION
No one remembers the calamity that killed the gods and stole the names of their people. Now Shipwright and Shroudweaver are known only by their professions.
She’s a master of magical shipbuilding. He’s a maker of the gilded gods that fuel their sails, stitched from the souls of dead sailors.
When a chance to save their world sets the horizon alight, they decide they’ll stop at nothing to vanquish the ultimate evil, embarking on a deadly race against time to beat the grief-wracked sorceress Crow-kisser to the notorious mountain kingdom in the legend-infested north before she unleashes the ancient evil entombed at its heart – the one that could destroy them all.
The Shipwright and the Shroudweaver introduces the most exciting new voice in Scottish fantasy with an epic adventure set in a post-apocalyptic landscape of god-fuelled ships, goth-as-hell villains, shadow-warping assassins, effortless queerness, and well-worn love – unmissable for fans of by Jay Kristoff, The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon, and Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson.
I came across this book on a Goodreads list and was immediately intrigued because of the title. Somehow it really spoke to me! And once I looked up the synopsis I was sold. There are so many trigger words in this that all made me want to add the book right away. I love that it’s a Scottish fantasy, post-apocalyptic, villains and assassins, ships that are fuelled by gods and it has an epic adventure.
One thing I could hardly believe was the fact that this book only has 320 pages. That is not something you see that often in this genre, most epic fantasies are big books. I’m really curious about the world building in only 320 pages. So far I haven’t seen anything about a sequel yet, but with this synopsis and small page count I wouldn’t be surprised. Hopefully we’ll also get a cover reveal soon, as it looks like the book will be released in November.
I’m really excited for this release and hope it lives up to my expectations. There aren’t any early reviews yet, so I’m a bit nervous about this release. Had you heard about it yet? What are your thoughts? I would love to hear from you down below!

Hope you really love this one. It does sound good. Thanks for sharing!

Fantasies based in Scotland are out there – but there aren’t loads and loads. You’re right – this sounds like so much fun! I hope you enjoy it, Isabelle:).
