Bookish Beginnings on Friday | Death of a Cheerleader – Marina Evans

We have a lot of eARC’s and we want to promote them a little bit more. So we decided to do some more Bookish Beginnings On Friday. Today I wanted to share the beginning of Death of a Cheerleader. I just got this eARC and I’m really curious. The author used to be a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader and I hope that translates to the story. Let’s take a look at the beginning of this book!

Don’t miss Death of a Cheerleader, an utterly gripping psychological thriller written by ex-Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader Marina Evans!

Everyone wants to be a Dallas Lonestars Cheerleader, but fame can have a deadly price…

The Dallas Lonestars Cheerleaders are untouchable. They are the epitome of glitz and glamour, reeking of hairspray and perfection. But everything changes when America’s Angel and cheerleading captain Jentry Rae Randall is found murdered in the squad’s locker room.

Filmmaker Nikki Keegan has the opportunity of a lifetime. Brought in to document the Lonestars’ potential comeback after four disastrous seasons, Nikki is now perfectly placed to investigate the murder of the team’s iconic frontwoman.

Nikki turns to cheerleader Shaunette Simmons, the deceased’s best friend, for help. As Nikki becomes closer to Shaunette, the more she suspects that Shaunette is hiding something.

But when Shaunette is run off the road and left to die, it’s clear that nobody in this cheer squad is safe. Because some people would kill to be a Dallas Lonestars Cheerleader…

On a crisp autumn game day, a wave of danger slithers up and over the rim of the Dalles Lonestars’ football stadium. As it skitters to the centre of the jam-packed arena, it begins to creep along the turf grass like a deadly rattlesnake.

Jentry Rae Randall – the captain of the Dallas Lonestars Cheerleaders – is lined up with her teammates inside the stadium tunnel. About to perform, she feels her stomach knot and her lungs tighten. Today’s matchup against the Philadelphia Condors will be broadcast to eighteen million viewers. She should be excited. Instead, the encroaching danger she senses is shredding her nerves like jagged glass.

The book starts with a prologue and from the looks of it it’s about the moments right before the murder. I’m feeling pretty neutral about these first sentences to be honest. There isn’t anything happening right away, but at the same time you do already get that the person about to be murdered has a weird feeling. So I guess I am a bit curious to find out why she was feeling that way.

Somehow I love to read thrillers in the summer, so I’m really happy to have received this eARC now. I hope to read it in the coming weeks and that it lives up to my expectations!
