We’re halfway through the year and that means it’s time for the yearly tradition; the Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag! I don’t do many tags anymore, but I always enjoyed this one, so of course I had to do it this year as well. This tag probably doesn’t need any introduction, so let’s dive into the questions!

Best Book You’ve Read So Far
This is always a difficult question! I kept going back and forth but I have to go with Sunrise on the Reaping. What a book, what an experience. I love the original trilogy and I am in awe of what Suzanne Collins did with the story for this prequel. It gives the whole series another layer and I definitely bawled my eyes out.

Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far
Another difficult one! I think I have to pick The Golden Raven, I adore the All For The Game series and was super excited to get another book in this world last year. This year we got the sequel to The Sunshine Court and I loved it so much. I’m happy we’re getting another book, even though it will probably shatter my heart again.

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To
It feels like cheating, since I am currently reading it but I have to go with Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil. V.E. Schwab is one of my all time favorite authors and I was so excited for this newest release. I expected to have finished it already by now, hopefully soon!

Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year
There are a couple releases I’m really excited about, but We Are All Guilty Here might be number one. Karin Slaughter has been a favourite of mine for years and years now and I’m excited to see what she does with a completely new series.

Biggest Disappointment
Probably The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston. Not because it was a bad book, but I just expected a little more out of it. Everyone seemed to be raving about it and said they got really emotional over it, that wasn’t my experience so that was a bit of a disappointment. I did still enjoy the book, but I had hoped to love it.

Biggest Surprise
My biggest surprise was probably Paladin’s Grace, I started listening to the audiobook on a bit of a whim and I really enjoyed it. It wasn’t my favorite book of the year, but I never expected to read it and can now say I for sure want to read the rest of the series as well.
Favorite New Author (Debut or New to You)
I’ve hardly read any new authors so far this year. My gut says I have to go with T. Kingfisher, I for sure want to read more of her books and I hope to truly add her as a favorite author of mine after those reads.
Newest Fictional Crush
I’ve read many sequels (and reread a lot haha), so I don’t think I’ve found any new fictional crushes yet this year!
Newest Favorite Character
This goes with the previous question, but if I had to choose I think Darlington from the Ninth House series is one of my favorite new characters I read about this year!

Book That Made You Cry
Most of them haha. Rebecca Yarros managed to make me cry at the end of another Empyrean book, there was one scene that made me bawl as expected haha.
Favorite Book to Film Adaptation You’ve Seen This Year
I don’t think I’ve seen any yet this year! And in general, I’ve hardly watched any movies this year haha.
Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought or Received This Year
I have been trying to limit the new books I get, so I don’t really have any for this one unfortunately.
What Book(s) Do You Need to Read by the End of the Year?
Too many to name haha, but at the same time I’m fine with whatever I read. I have a pretty stressful job and I read for fun, so I try to be kind to myself and just be happy with whatever I end up reading.
And that was the Mid Year Book Freak Out tag for this year! I once again loved thinking about the books I have read so far this year, there were a lot of great ones and I can’t wait to see what the second half of the year brings.

I, too, don’t often do tag posts, but I do enjoy reading ones like this because it gives me a bit of fun insight into bloggers reading beyond just reviews. I recently became aware of the Paladin’s Grace book and want to pick it up soon, although I am undecided on whether to go the audiobook route or the physical book.
