We have a lot of eARC’s and we want to promote them a little bit more. So we decided to do some more Bookish Beginnings On Friday. Today I wanted to share the beginning of Ink Ribbon Red. This thriller by Alex Pravesi will be released July 22nd and is promoted as Knives Out meets Saltburn. Let’s jump in!
Anatol invites five of his oldest friends to his family home in the Wiltshire countryside to celebrate his thirtieth birthday. At his request, they play a game of his invention: Motive Method Death. The rules are simple: everyone chooses two players at random and imagines a scenario where one kills the other, then writes it down as a short story.
Points are given for making the murders feel real, as Anatol explains to the group. Of course, when given this assignment, it’s only natural to use what you know. Secrets. Grudges. Affairs. But once you’ve put it in a story, that secret is out. It’s not long before the game has reawakened old resentments and brought private matters into the light of day. So with each fictional murder, someone new gets a very real motive.
Ink Ribbon Red ultimately asks: When a real murder is headed your way, will you be able to spot it in time?

“I don’t want you to think I’m a bad person…”
The weekend had begun with hope but would end in horror, like every weekend.
I like this start of the book! It immediately makes me want to continue reading! This is how you start a mystery thriller in my opinion. Both the first and the second sentence intrigue me and make me very curious. Why would they be a bad person, why would the weekend end in horror, what happens every weekend? So many questions right of the bat!
I really love the movie Knives Out so that description peaked my interested right away. While I haven’t seen Saltburn, I have heard about it of course. The promotion, the synopsis and the start of the book all make me excited to dive into this one. I have good hopes that this will be a thrilling mystery with hopefully a good and surprising twist at the end!
