Bookish Item | March 2025 Witchy Book Blast

March 1st was the Witchy Book Blast, an ‘event’ wherein authors make their books free for a day on Kindle, much like Stuff Your Kindle Day. And like I said, that day was March 1st. I got an email from one of the participating authors and a link to Witchy Bookworms. While this event is over now, I did want to share which books I snagged. They are all cozy, witchy mysteries and I’m excited to read them at some point. Let’s take a look!

Spells and Spooks – K.E. O’Connor

Welcome to Witch Haven. Where nothing is quite what it seems.

I’m back in the last place I want to be. A place where my magic went rogue, and people died. Witch Haven should be a haven, but I messed that up big time.

I have no friends to help me. No family left. And not even a witch’s familiar to keep me on the right path.

Magic used to flow through me, but now I’m a lone witch, drained of power and hoping I can sneak into Witch Haven, clear up the mess my stepmom left behind, and get out alive.

If the villagers find out I’m here, I’ll be hunted down. If the Magic Council catch me using anything more powerful than a light spell, I’ll go back to jail. And if my guilt doesn’t choke me, the gnomes will.

So yeah. Home sweet home never felt so unwelcoming.

This was the first one I got, I have to say this synopsis doesn’t really give a cosy mystery vibe. So I’m intrigued to see where this is going and what the tone of the story will be. I hadn’t heard anyone talk about this series yet so I’m going in very neutral.

The Magic of Death – Leslie Gail

Witches, Murder, and Ghosts, oh my!
Welcome to Dead End, Texas, a tourist town where it’s spooky season all year long…

Star Bell comes from a long line of witches originating all the way back to Salem—if her granny is to be believed.

While the rest of her family employs their magical abilities in their assorted businesses on Main Street, Star flat out refuses to use her own because communicating with the dearly departed has never brought her anything but trouble. And the one spirit she wants to talk to—her sister Astra—has ghosted her. So why bother?

And if that’s not enough for an almost forty-year-old to deal with, she’s living with three generations of Bells. Between her sixty-year-old aunt who is acting like a teenager and her teenage niece who isn’t acting much like herself, Star doesn’t have a moment of peace these days.

But when her niece becomes the prime suspect in a murder investigation, Star must embrace her power and enlist the spirits of Dead End to help find the real killer before she becomes a permanent resident of Dead End herself.

This sounds more like the cosy mysteries I’m used to! I really like that the main character is an almost forty-year-old, that’s not like my usual mc’s. It reminds me a bit of Midnight, Texas and I really enjoyed that so here’s to hoping ;).

Sorcery and Suspects – Clare Lockhart

Only murder can lift a centuries-old curse.

When Addie Keane finds a dead body at a wedding reception, her witchy senses cry murder—even though the hot sheriff doesn’t suspect foul play.

If she can unravel the cryptic clues in her psychic visions and put another killer behind bars, she’ll be one step closer to freeing her family from the centuries-old curse that controls their supernatural powers.

Yet with her magical abilities awakening in ways she doesn’t understand, she has more questions than answers.

Like, why is someone tracking her? Why is her warlock nemesis dating her very human best friend? And why is her niece, so eager to help break the family curse, suddenly sabotaging their investigation?

With the killer on her tail, if Addie can’t figure it all out, then nothing about her freedom-at-fifty dream will be smooth sailing.

I didn’t realise this was book 4 in a series before getting it haha. Hopefully this is the type of book where you can still enjoy the main story and understand enough of what else is going on in the series.

Ghost Appeal – Louisa West

I didn’t choose the boo life. The boo life chose me.
I’m Ivy Hearst and I’ve always had a spook-tacular talent for seeing ghosts. It’s just part of who I am. When I was small it used to give me the heebie-jeebies, but as I got older I learned to embrace my gift. Now, as a spiritual medium, I get to help others handle their own spirit experiences and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Normally.

Seeing the ghost of a dearly departed client who’s house I just performed a spiritual cleansing in? That’s a new one. And it’s landed me in hot water.

Now I’ve gotta put my gift to work and ghost-bust a murderer. With a bossy apparition all up in my business and the Savannah PD side-eying me as a suspect, this won’t be easy. A web of mystery and danger is being woven around me. Evil spirits and the killer are closing in, and I’ll have to walk the shadowy line between the dead and the living to uncover the truth.

The clock is ticking, and the supernatural forces around me are only growing stronger. Can I bring a murderer to justice before I get thrown in the slammer–or into the afterlife myself?

This synopsis does sound a bit cringy to me, so I’m not sure I will like this writing style. But since it was free I’m willing to give it a try for sure, it might just surprise me. I do think this one might be one of the lowest priorities.

Hardbacks and Hexes – Sue Hollowell

Arabella hides an extraordinary secret: she is a witch, known only to the spirit of her late grandmother. Living a simple life as a café worker and vegetable seller, she avoids using her powers, despite her grandmother’s encouragement. But her quiet existence is shattered when a stranger publicly accuses her of witchcraft. The next day, this accuser is found dead, and Arabella becomes the prime suspect.

With suspicion growing and her grandmother urging her to embrace her magical heritage, Arabella must navigate a labyrinth of past connections and hidden truths. Her only lead? A business card from the victim, revealing ties to a coven that includes Arabella’s estranged best friend, Danica. As she delves deeper, Arabella uncovers a tragic tale of love and betrayal.

In a race against time to clear her name, Arabella confronts the true cost of her secret. Hardbacks and Hexes is a spellbinding paranormal cozy mystery, where the lines between the mundane and magical blur, and a witch must confront her past to protect her future.

The title already sold me! I’m really curious about this one, I like that it features an estranged best friend. This might be one of the first ones I’ll pick up.

Pumpkin Spice and All Things Nice – Laura Greenwood

When coffee shop owner, Willow, receives a mysterious teapot from her best friend, her charmed life is turned upside down.

Between the cursed warlock who thinks he’s still in Ancient times, the cat who insists on coming through her window and making herself at home, and a new employee, Willow has her hands full.

Can she unravel the mess she’s found herself in? And can she do it without losing her heart?

A mysterieus teapot? I am intrigued! What will happen with that teapot? Does the cursed warlock come out of it? Like a reversed genie? I’m so curious!

So these are the cosy, magical mysteries I got for free on kindle! Had you heard of any of them? Which one should I pick up first? Let me know down below!
