Down the TBR Hole #109

I wasn’t as enthusiastic as last time and only managed to get one book off of my Goodreads want to read shelf since my last post.

Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story. This meme is now being hosted by Jody from I’m Into Books. It looked like a fun and productive way to finally make a dent in that Goodreads TBR. I went through my want-to-read shelf a little while ago but I think I was still to kind on a lot of books. Let’s see what I’ll make of it this time around. I decided to go with 10 books at a time so lets get started!

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “to-read” shelf: 820 (my last post ended at 821. So that’s one book less than last time.)

Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors – Sonali Dev

From what I understand this is a genderbent retelling of Pride and Prejudice. It definitely sounds like a book I’d enjoy, but I don’t own this one and actually forgot about it. So for now, I will take it off of my shelf.

Bet on It – Jodie Slaughter

I just love the fact that the main character plays bingo with an elderly lady. Bet on It sounds right up my alley. There’s also something about a bingo based sex pact with the male main character? This is going to be an interesting book. It seems like there’s also a more emotional side of this story, so I’m excited to read this one.

Keep

Fake It Till You Bake It – Jamie Wesley

As a big fan of fake dating, I was sold on Fake It Till You Bake It right away. I also love that it’s the male main character that has the bakery. That’s not something I’ve seen yet.

Keep

You, Me, and Our Heartstrings – Melissa See

Our main characters were hoping to use their holiday concert to land a Julliard audition. They have to do a duet and this performance goes viral. Except it’s not the music people are talking about, but their love story as well as Daisy’s cerebral palsy take the spotlight. I really want to read this one!

Keep

Fool Me Twice at Christmas – Camilla Isley

A couple breaks up, but they aren’t sure how to tell their family. When they finally decide to when heading home for Christmas, they end up engaged instead. I love everything Christmas, but this one has a lot of mixed reviews. I also don’t own Fool Me Twice at Christmas, so I’ll take if off my shelf.

Remove

Sunreach – Brandon Sanderson

Skyward is a series I really hope to start this year, because the final book releases in a couple of months. Sunreach is a short story (2.1) in this series. Seeing how I haven’t read the first book yet I’ll be taking this one off of my shelf.

Remove

Knot My Type – Evie Mitchell

I love the cover for Knot My Type. So I’m not a fan of instalove stories, but Knot My Type just sounds so cute. I’ll definitely be reading this one. Hopefully I can bump it up my TBR soon.

Keep

Nick and Noel’s Christmas Playlist – Codi Hall

Nick and Noel’s Playlist is a book I saw everywhere when it first released. Seeing how I’m a big Christmas fan this sounded like something I would love. After reading some reviews though a lot of people are saying it’s not really a Christmas story. So I think at the moment I’m going to take this off of my shelf.

Remove

Baby It’s Cold Outside – Emily Bell

Apparently I was adding quite a few Christmas books to my want to read shelf at once, haha. The cover for Baby It’s Cold Outside is really pretty. The reviews are all pretty average and seeing how I don’t own this one yet I don’t know when I will read it, I’ll take it off of my shelf for now.

Remove

No Words – Meg Cabot

It seems that both of our characters are authors in No Words and that’s probably what caught my eye. No Words is the third book in the Little Bridge Island series. I’ve only read the first book so far and because of that this one will be taken off of my shelf for now. I will be reading it though!

Removal Percentage: 60%
Current “to-read” shelf: 814

That was my 109th Down the TBR Hole post and I removed over half of the books in this week’s post from my want to read shelf. Have you read any of these? Would you have chosen differently? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear from you.

  1. I like this way of whittling down your TBR especially books that have been there for a while. I was guilty of adding tons of books to my Goodreads TBR and then forgetting about most of them. I rarely touch Goodreads anymore, but I’m a bit curious about what my TBR looks like there and if I still have an interest in some of the books on it. I can say I haven’t heard of any of the books that are on your list.
