With the insanely hot weather we got over here, it seems fitting to do a summer tag! So today I have the Quintessential Summer Book Tag for you all. This tag was created by Kat from TheBookishKat and I found it over at Katie’s blog Lost in Pages. There are 10 questions so let’s jump in!
1. Iced Drink – a refreshing book
Sorcery of Thorns was a pretty refreshing book. I hardly ever read standalone fantasy novels, especially not ones that are this good. Usually I feel left wanting more or like the story wasn’t well developed. This time I was very pleased! Although I would love to read more about these characters haha.
2. Cotton Candy- a book that was fluffy and sweet
This is the way I want my contemporaries! Sweet and fluffy. One of my favorites, and one that doesn’t get nearly enough attention or love, is The Summer I Became a Nerd. This was such a cute read and I loved the characters.
3. Sunglasses – a dark book
One of my favorite reads this year was The Test, a book that I was expecting to be dark, but it turned out the be even darker! I loved it so much and I can’t wait to read more by this author.
4. Picnic on a Rainy Day – a sad book
Sadie has to be the saddest book I’ve read this year. I loved the story, especially the ending but I was so sad afterwards! Of course I was once again expecting this to be either dark or sad but I did not expect that ending.
5. Sand – a book that irritated you
This year I read The Other Side and I thought it was going to be a cute summer contemporary but in the end I was just really annoyed. The story wasn’t that great and the characters could’ve been developed better.
6. Summer Blockbuster – favorite book-to-screen adaptation
An oldie, but I loved the way Mockingjay (the third Hunger Games book) was adapted. They changed a couple of small things but those made the story and especially the movie even better. One of my favorite scenes in the third movie wasn’t even in the book so that says something haha.
7. Dropped Ice Cream – a you were anticipating, but it wasn’t good
I was really looking forward to Of Curses and Kisses, Sandhya Menon is a beloved author and everyone talks about her books. Since this is a contemporary Beauty and the Beast retelling I was highly anticipating this one. Unfortunately it did not live up to my expectations.
8. Palm Tree – a tall book you loved
Graphic novels are tall so I had to pick a graphic novel for this one ;). And I absolutely loved Fence! I’ve read the first three volumes so far and plan on getting the newest very soon.
9. Bonfire – a book you want to burn
There is probably only one book I would love to burn, and it’s a big one so it’ll burn for a while haha. Night Film was so bad and it took me so long to get to that disappointing ending!
10. Fireworks – a book that exploded onto the scene
Slay!! I LOVED Slay so much and I exploded with feelings haha. This book is so good, I couldn’t stick to the schedule Candyce and I set up for ourselves haha. I just had to continue reading so I could finish it <3.
