Royal Update #27

We thought it was time for a fun new post every week. In the Royal Update one of us updates you about our personal life, bookish news, what we’re reading, watching and listening to and anything else that might apply to this post. We thought it would be fun to share a bit more about our personal lives and hope you think so too!

For the past two weeks most of my life has been about working, going to my internship and studying. But almost all of my free time I’ve been spending on social media following the Black Lives Matter movement. Minnesota is one of my favorite places on earth but I am very privileged to not have realized there was so much racism there. While I’m late to the game, I have been doing a lot of reassessing, reading and listening. I thought I wasn’t a racist but I’ve come to realize I need to be anti-racist and that’s more of a verb than anything else.

I’ve taken a good look at my bookshelves and there aren’t nearly enough Black authors on there. Last week I already wrote a post about that and I’ve updated my Goodreads with a lot of books by Black authors I want to read. Candyce and I talked about the lack of Black authors on our blog as well. And we want and need to be better. This is our little part of the internet and we want to use that for good. And we can’t do that if we don’t give attention to Black authors. So from now on we are going to review more books by Black authors. At least one book every month will be a book by a Black author but hopefully there will be more. We’ll also actively want to promote more books by Black authors and make sure our anticipated releases posts are more diverse. If at any point you think we aren’t doing enough, please tell us so we can continue to better ourselves <3

I got one new eARC! 10 Things I hate About Pinky was available for download on Netgalley for me and I decided to go for it. The books in this series by Sandhya Menon are very well received and this one sounds very enjoyable. Hopefully it will live up to my expectations!

I finally finished a couple of more books! Ghost Squad, the Magic Misfits: The Second Story and The Okay Witch were all for Middle Grade May. I really enjoyed this books and I’m so happy I read them. The Black Flamingo was an audiobook and I’m so happy I listened to this one. I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did, what a wonderful read. You can expect a review soon! At the moment |’m listening to You Should See Me In a Crown and I will definitely read My Calamity Jane very soon.

I only have one piece of bookish news!

The final episodes of Fuller House dropped on Netflix last week. And of course I watched them in no time. I did manage to draw it out over 3 days but it went by so fast! The 100 and Blindspot aired the first couple of episodes of their last season. I watched the episodes that are out and loved all of them. In the case of Blindspot I’m happy it’s ending, I don’t think they could’ve made something as good anymore, but this last season seems to be amazing. For The 100 I’m super sad! It’s been one of my absolute favorite shows over the years and I’m not ready to say goodbye. There will be a prequel show but it’s with different characters so it won’t be the same. Still excited for that though!

Something completely different than my usual music, but I’ve been listening to this lullaby playlist a lot. I have been studying a lot but I like to listen to something while I’m doing that. This playlist is not distracting but it is very soothing and I love it!
