We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week’s topic is Books From My Favorite Genre. For me that’s a toss between contemporary and fantasy, but seeing how it’s just about summer now, I will choose contemporary. Here are ten of my favorite contemporary books!
Fangirl – Rainbow Rowell I remember when I first picked this up (I loved the title) and I couldn’t put it down. I loved the combination of little parts of her fandom, her own fanfiction and everything surrounding that. Starting college isn’t easy and Cath has a lot to adjust to. She’s very relatable!
All the Feels – Danika Stone What can I say? I love books with fandoms! Talking about this one makes me want to reread it, because this book really gave me all the feels. Seeing someone so passionate about a fandom is a lot of fun to read about. Especially seeing a fandom come together. Add some romance and I was one happy reader.
Anna and the French Kiss – Stephanie Perkins This is the ultimate summer read. Set in the romantic Paris, you know this story will make you swoon. Anna is a relatable character and รtienne is still pretty high on my book boyfriend list. A fast and easy read while on the beach or near the pool.
The Exact Opposite of Okay – Laura Steven I don’t have to say much if you’ve been following the blog. This is definitely a favorite of mine. Besides an amazing main character and lots of humor, this book has such an important message for girls! I need to read the sequel soon.
Geekerella – Ashley Poston A modern day retelling of Cinderella and it’s done so well. Add a fandom our main character shared with her father and an actor playing in a remake of said fandom. I loved the modern aspects. Texting the wrong number and bonding over a fandom so many people love. When you love something so much, it’s hard seeing remakes.
Queens of Geek – Jen Wilde A contemporary that takes place a con where lovers of many fandoms come together. Our characters travel rather far to attend and so much happens while they’re there. I think my favorite part is seeing how these characters change during the book. Definitely one that left a smile on my face.
If There’s No Tomorrow – Jennifer L. Armentrout Out of all of my picks, this is a heavier topic. This book has me crying and I didn’t see it coming. I can’t say a lot about this story, because the twist is one you need to experience while reading. If There’s No Tomorrow carries an important message.
Red, White & Royal Blue – Casey McQuiston This is one of my more recent reads and I couldn’t get enough of this book! The son of the President of the United States (who is a woman, how cool is that?!?) and the Prince of England play a big part in this book and the romance is so sweet. Red, White & Royal Blue will definitely make my list of favorites at the end of the year.
Mountain Creek Drive – M.F. Lorson, Daphne James Huff & Kayla Tirrell I can’t choose just one book in this trilogy, because they’re all so fun! If you grew up in the ’90s like I did, you will recognize a lot in these books. They are all set in the early 00’s. Think Blockbuster and Walkman! So much fun.
Dear Adam – Kelsie Stelting I really enjoyed this book, because it shows us that even when you think someone has everything going for them in life, you don’t know what it looks like behind closed doors. Everyone needs an outlet and a column where students can stay anonymous and get answers to their questions, is such a good idea. This is a really good read! I loved the characters.
So there are my top ten (well… 13) favorite contemporary books. I didn’t put them in any particular order and believe me when I say this list could be so much longer! I do recommend all of these for summer reads though. What is your favorite genre? Feel free to leave your links in the comments!
You know how much I loved Exact Opposite of Okay, it needs ALL THE LOVE EVER! Such an incredible book. Great list!
Thank you! It’s so good!! I’m happy you loved it as much as me.
Even the covers are giving me a wonderful summer vibe! Fab list.
Thank you! Yes, the covers are all perfect!
The only one I’ve read from this list is Fangirl, but I really liked it. I’ve heard of Danika Stone from Switchback, but I’ll have to look into All The Feels too.

All the Feels is a lot different than Switchback, but it’s really good.
I’ve seen a lot of people reading and loving Red, White and Royal Blue! I wasn’t sure when it first came out if I wanted to read it but I’m definitely considering it now!
My TTT
I was afraid the hype surrounding it would make it a disappointment, but it really lives up to the hype!
Contemporary is my favourite genre too ๐ And almost all of these are on my lost too. I absolutely canโt wait to read RW&RB. People are going crazy for it and here I am wishing for the price to go down ๐ And I am starting The Exact Opposite of Okay today ๐ so yay!
Wonderful list.

Enjoy The Exact Opposite of Okay, it’s an emotional read, but so good!! I hope the price gets lower soon!
For me, Geekerella started really strong, but I lost my interest after reading 50% of it. Maybe I wasn`t in the mood for it at the time. Might pick it up again, cause so many people love it.
