Bookish Item| Goodreads Choice Awards 2025: Young Adult Fiction & Fantasy/Sci-Fi TBR

The last few years I haven’t been reading as much young adult books as before. I still enjoy them, but I have been focusing more on adult stories. That being said, there are still quite a few I want to read.

Looking at this year’s Goodreads Choice nominees in the young adult categories reminded me of some I still have on my TBR. Let’s take a look at some I’m hoping to read soon.

Fake Skating – Lynn Painter

After reading Better Than the Movies by this author, I haven’t skipped any of her releases. I even read her middle grade release earlier this year. It doesn’t matter what age range she writes for, I love them all. Fake Skating has fake dating and that’s all I needed to know. That’s my favorite trope. I am determined to read this one before the end of 2025.

The Survivor Wants to Die at the End – Adam Silvera

When I read They Both Die at the End, I knew what to expect. I mean the title says it all, right? The story takes place in less than 24 hours and I never expected to get invested in these characters as much as I did. I wasn’t expecting for Adam to write more books in this world, but I’m here for it. This one has had some mixed reviews, but I will read it. The Survivor Wants to Die at the End is over 700 pages, so it’s going to take me a little while.

Nobody in Particular – Sophie Gonzales

I still have two books I need to read by Sophie Gonzales on my shelves, but Nobody in Particular caught my eye. Boarding schools are my favorite bookish setting and it’s a royal romance. Need I say more?

The Otherwhere Post – Emily J. Taylor

Hotel Magnifique is a book I read by this author earlier this year and I loved it. The Otherwhere Post also sounds amazing. A glittering dark fantasy with a mystery? Yes, please! This sounds like a perfect rainy day read.

Never Ever After – Sue Lynn Tan

Sue Lynn Tan is a new to me author that I’ve heard amazing things about and it’s been so long since I read a fairytale inspired story. Never Ever After is a Cinderella inspired fantasy. That’s all I know, but I’m excited.

The Rose Bargain – Sasha Peyton Smith

A fae grants each one of her subjects the opportunity to bargain for their deepest desire. When it comes to fae you know it won’t be easy. Our main character decides to sign up for the opportunity to win the prince’s hand in marriage. I know I’m going to have a good time with this one.

So here are six of the young adult nominees this year that I need to read soon. Have you read any of these? Or are there books you still need to read from the nominees? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear from you!
