We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week’s topic is Books I Meant to Read in 2023 but Didn’t Get To and Candyce was supposed to do a part 2 after I did a part 1 last week. Unfortunately she had something happen this weekend and I offered to take over this post. So I decided to go with next week’s topic; New-to-Me Authors I Discovered in 2023. I only read 6 new-to-me authors in 2023 so this list will be a bit shorter than usual. Let’s dive in!
1. Fonda Lee
I finally read my first Fonda Lee book and I loved it! There is another Fonda Lee read on my TBR and I hope to read it really soon. I’ve heard great things about Jade City and I have really high hopes for that series.
2. Carissa Broadbent
This was a TikTok find and it did not disappoint! I have been adding a lot of Carissa Broadbent books to my wishlist and can’t wait to read more by her. The sequel to The Serpent and the Wings of Night should be my next Carissa Broadbent read but there will be more afterwards!
3. Haruichi Furudate
My favorite manga currently is Haikyu. I’m not sure Haruichi Furudate wrote anything besides Haikyu but luckily for me there are 45 volumes so I have a while to go.
4. A.M. Strickland
This was my first A.M. Strickland book and it was enjoyable! I probably won’t go out of my way to read more books by this author but when I see one with an interesting premise I will definitely pick it up.
5. S.A. Chakraborty
I finally read a S.A. Chakraborty book after having The City of Brass on my TBR forever. After loving The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi I can’t wait to read S.A. Chakraborty’s other series or the sequel to Amina. I have high hopes for both!
6. Oyinkan Braithwaite
I had been wanting to read My Sister, the Serial Killer for a long time and I’m so happy I finally did read it. However, I haven’t added any other book by Oyinkan Braithwaite to my TBR yet. They don’t seem like my type of books but I will be on the lookout of new releases since I did enjoy My Sister, the Serial Killer a lot!
These are 6 new-to-me authors I discovered in 2023. Have you read any books by one (or more) of these authors? I would love to hear which books you’d recommend! Hopefully I can pick up some more books by these wonderful authors!
I like this twist!

I love discovering new authors. I haven’t read any of these authors though I do want to read the Haikyu series at some point.

I’ve enjoyed the few volumes of Haikyu! I’ve read and look forward to reading more. My daughter gave me the first two volumes for Christmas 2022. I was kind of disappointed she didn’t give me any more this past Christmas.
