The first week of January was dedicated to finally watching Avatar the Last Airbender. I have been wanting to watch this show for a long, long time and did watch a couple of episodes at some point. After talking about it with a friend I decided to finally dive back in and binge the whole show. Did I enjoy it? Let’s talk about it!In a war-torn world of elemental magic, a young boy reawakens to undertake a dangerous mystic quest to fulfill his destiny as the Avatar, and bring peace to the world.

I knew a little bit about ATLA through what I had seen when I was younger and mostly because everything that I came across on the internet. And I saw mostly great things so I was really excited about it. The friend I was talking to also loves this show so I was extra curious.

I watched the entirety of the show in about 4 days so it was a pretty good binge I would say. It was super enjoyable and I kept wanting to watch more episodes. While the overall journey took a while because of all the side quests I still thought it was too short. I really wished we would’ve gotten more episodes with these characters.

The show was too short for my tastes, not only because I enjoyed it so much but also because some things went really fast. For example, Aang mastering the elements in basically one episode everytime after not being able to do it for half a season felt both repetitive and a bit easy. I would love it if the live action show does things a bit different in that regard.

My favorite part of the show was Zuko and his development. I loved seeing him find himself and grow into the person he became. His backstory was pretty gruesome and I think his development was incredibly well done. Zuko is who I’m looking forward to the most in the live action but also who I’m dreading haha. Hopefully they do him justice!
