Down the TBR Hole #118

Welcome to my first Down the TBR Hole in 2024! We’re starting the year with 776 books on my want to read shelf and we’re almost through the list for the first time. I’m thinking to start over after that and see where I stand on the books I left on my shelf.

Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story. This meme is now being hosted by Jody from I’m Into Books. It looked like a fun and productive way to finally make a dent in that Goodreads TBR. I went through my want-to-read shelf a little while ago but I think I was still to kind on a lot of books. Let’s see what I’ll make of it this time around. I decided to go with 10 books at a time so lets get started!

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “to-read” shelf: 776 (my last post ended at 776. So nothing has changed since the last time.)

Her Villains – Jade Presley

I’ve seen people describe Her Villains as “if Marvel got smutty”. People in my book club have read it and loved it. I have to say that I’m curious, haha. The cover is also stunning! I’ll definitely be reading this one.

Keep

Rival Radio – Kathryn Nolan

Rival Radio is a book I saw a lot of people promoting when it released, including a few of my favorite authors. Our main characters have an enemies to lovers romance while trying to save their radio station. This book sounds right up my alley.

Keep

The Lightning-Struck Heart – T.J. Klune

Since reading The House in the Cerulean Sea I’ve been wanting to read TJ’s backlist. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about the Tales from Verania series and The Lightning-Struck Heart is the first book. I have this one on my shelf and really hope to read it in 2024.

Keep

A Broken Blade – Melissa Blair

A Broken Blade became popular when the author was anonymous and promoting this book. In the end a publisher picked it up and the third book will be releasing soon in The Halfling Saga. I’ve seen some mixed reviews, but I am very curious about this fantasy romance.

Keep

The Book Eaters – Sunyi Dean

The Book Eaters has people who eat books as food and retain all content after consuming the book. There seems to be an exception though, because one wants human minds. I love this idea and still want to read what it’s all about.

Keep

Secrets So Deep – Ginny Myers Sain

Ginny Myers Sain is an author I’ve been wanting to read something by since Dark and Shallow Lies released. Secrets So Deep is a paranormal thriller at an exclusive theater camp. That setting sounds amazing and spooky. I need this one in my life.

Keep

Double Twist – Stephanie Rowe

I remember when Double Twist released and saw it quite a bit on bookstagram. After that I have to say I haven’t seen many people talk about it. Double Twist sounds like a fun read, but I don’t own this one at the moment and I’m not sure if/when I’ll pick it up. So for now, I’m taking it off of my shelf.

Remove

Lightlark – Alex Aster

Lightlark was everywhere before it released and got a lot of hype. It seems by the looks of reviews people love it or don’t. The sequel released in November of last year and I’m still curious about it. I’m a big fan of books with games or competitions.

Keep

A Sweet Mess – Jayci Lee

I tend to love books with baking and stuff like that and A Sweet Mess’ cute cover definitely caught my eye. There are a lot of mixed reviews and even though I’m a reader that likes to decide for myself, I don’t own this book at the moment. I have a feeling it may stay that way.

Remove

Lovelight Farms – B.K. Borison

This is a case of I’ve already read this book, but have another edition on my want to read shelf. Lovelight Farms was self published and then Berkley picked it up. This is such a sweet romance that I loved! I highly recommend this series, but because I’ve read this one I don’t need it on my want to read shelf anymore.

Removal Percentage: 30%
Current “to-read” shelf: 773

So we’re starting off the year removing three books from my shelf. That’s not bad! Have you read any of these books? Would you have chosen differently? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear from you!
