TTT #321| Books with One-Word Titles On My TBR

We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is the ten most recent additions to my bookshelf, but this is something I’ll be doing in our monthly wrap up. So I decided to do a different topic this week. I looked back at previous topics and decided to talk about books with one-word titles on my TBR.

Thunderhead – Neal Shusterman

Scythe is a book I read in 2018, so it’s really time for me to continue this trilogy. The concept in this book that no one dies until a scythe decides you do. I know I couldn’t put the first book down. Seeing how it’s been almost five years, I may need to reread Scythe before picking up Thunderhead.

Legendborn – Tracy Deonn

Our main character didn’t know that magic existed until she witnessed a magical attack at her school the first night she’s on campus. Books like this are ones I tend to love, so of course I added it to my shelf. I was waiting for the sequel, because this was going to be a duology. A third book has been recently been announced, so I mind as well just start this series!

Passenger – Alexandra Bracken

Passenger is a book I’ve had on my shelf for at least 5 years. This is a time travel book and I can say that I haven’t read many of those. There have been some mixed reviews, so that’s probably why it’s taken me some time to pick it up. The book is stunning though and one I need to read in 2024.

Gilded – Marissa Meyer

Marissa Meyer wrote my favorite retelling series, The Lunar Chronicles. Gilded is a Rumpelstiltskin retelling and it sounds so good. It seems like it may be a little darker than The Lunar Chronicles and sounds like a great rainy day read.

Skyhunter – Marie Lu

I don’t read a lot of science fiction, but Skyhunter sounds like a book right up my alley. It’s actually one I started when it first released, but as usual I got distracted. A world broken by war and we have warriors who are willing to do anything to save what they love. Those are the kind of stories that tend to pull me in. The second in the duet is already out in the world, so I wouldn’t have to wait to finish this one.

Prism – Nina Walker

A friend of mine was really enthusiastic about Prism when it released, so I bought my own copy. The idea of colors being magic is one I love and in this story no one can access red magic. Until our main character comes along of course.

Spellbreaker – Charlie N. Holmberg

If I’m honest, the cover of Spellbreaker is what caught my eye. Our main character is an unlicensed magic user. I love magic in stories and it seems there’s also a mystery in this one. A few people I know love this author, so I’m excited to read Spellbreaker.

Parachutes – Kelly Yang

Parachutes are apparently teenagers dropped off to live in private homes and study in the US while their wealthy parents stay in Asia. Our main character is a parachute. This contemporary book is almost 500 pages long and that’s not something you see often. I’ve heard great things about this book.

Glint – Raven Kennedy

I loved Gild, the first book in this King Midas retelling. A lot of people said that they didn’t care for the first book, but love the series more and more as it continues. I personally loved the first book and actually started Glint. I get distracted way too easily at times.

Legendary – Stephanie Garber

Caraval was a very popular book when it released in 2016. While I enjoyed it, I didn’t completely get the hype. I do own the second book, so I’m thinking of doing a reread and finally finishing this trilogy. Which is what I want to do before starting Once Upon a Broken Heart.

  1. From your list I’ve read Gilded, Glint and Legendary.

Gilded is indeed a tad darker than The Lunar Chronicles, which makes this the perfect season to read it. Glint takes a while to pick up, just like Gild did. And Legandary is so, so much better than Caraval! Maybe the best book in the series.
