It’s that time of the year again! This past week we could vote in the opening round of the 2023 Goodreads Choice Awards. It looks like they changed a couple of things and Tuesday the final round started. That one goes until this Sunday, so December 3th. I had a pretty hard time this year as I have read even less of the nominees compared to the previous years. But I thought it would be fun to take a look at which nominees I did read. So let’s dive in!
Yellowface – R.F. Kuang
This one is in the Fiction category and got my vote right away. Even if I had read others, I think I still would’ve voted for Yellowface. This was such a great read, it was also a hard one and really made me think but I liked that a lot. I would love to see this one win.
The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi – Shannon Chakraborty
This one is in the Fantasy category and I have to admit I didn’t vote for this one. It was a really hard choice as I loved this book so much. And I can’t wait for the sequel. But while I did love this one, there was one I possibly loved even more.
The Fragile Threads of Power- V.E. Schwab
This was my pick in the Fantasy category. I love V.E. Schwab, I love the Shades of Magic series and I love this start of a new series in the Shades of Magic world. The new characters were amazing and I loved reading about my old favorites again. I would love for this one to win but there is some tough competition!
Never Ever Getting Back Together – Sophie Gonzales
This is the only one that didn’t make it to the final round unfortunately! I did vote for it in the YA Fiction category. Sophie Gonzales has become one of my favorite authors and I really enjoyed this one. Hopefully her audience will keep on growing!
Five Survive – Holly Jackson
This one was also in the YA Fiction category. In the final round I did vote for this one as I did enjoy it and it was the only book left that I had read haha. I like Holly Jackson work and I’m excited to read what she comes up with next.
These are the 5 nominated books I’ve read. Can you believe I read so little of the nominees? I guess it’s not that surprising as I haven’r read that much this year and a lot of it was rereads. Hopefully I can read a couple more as I have some on my shelves. Would you like another post about the nominees I still want to read? Let me know in the comments!
Didn’t even realize the voting time has already started!
Interesting choices you read!
