Review | Godsgrave – Jay Kristoff

I’ve finally finished a book again! After browsing through some audiobook options I came across Godsgrave and gave it a try. It’s become the first book I finished in almost 6 weeks. You can probably guess if it was enjoyable haha, but let’s take a look at my thoughts anyways.

Review | Godsgrave – Jay Kristoff

Mia Corvere has found her place among the Blades of Our Lady of Blessed Murder, but many in the Red Church hierarchy think she's far from earned it. Plying her bloody trade in a backwater of the Republic, she's no closer to ending the men who destroyed her familia; in fact, she's told directly that Consul Scaeva is off limits. But after a deadly confrontation with an old enemy, Mia's suspicions about the Red Church's true motives begin to grow.

Godsgrave is the sequel to Nevernight, a book I loved a lot. I got on the bandwagon a little late and then also waited way too long to finally pick up Godsgrave. But I did so with the audiobook. These books have a lot of footnotes, something I thought was really cool, and I was curious to see how they would work with an audiobook. I was pleasantly surprised, the story still flowed really well and I could usually tell when we were hearing a footnote instead of the ‘regular’ story.

Conquer your fear, and you can conquer the world.”

We pick the story up a bit after the events of Nevernight. But we also get flashbacks to what happened in between. I really enjoyed the storyline in this sequel. It took me a little bit to get into it but once I did I just couldn’t stop. I wanted to keep on listening and listening until I finished the book. There were a couple of really shocking moments! Especially towards the ending. I hoped/guessed some of it but I was also shocked by some of them. And I think that is just the best feeling!

Memory is a traitor, and a liar, and a good-for-nothing thief.”

We get some familiar characters but also some new ones. I loved seeing the characters we already know, and getting to know some of them a bit better, but it was also great meeting the new ones. All of the gladiators Mia lives with were especially great. I started to love them a lot! We also spend a lot more time with them than with the characters we already knew but I wasn’t mad about it at all.

“If Vengeance has a mother, her name is Patience.”

As soon as I finished Godsgrave I wanted to start the final book in the trilogy. We end the book with some revelations and I can’t wait to find out what happens next! I really loved Godsgrave and I have high hopes for Darkdawn.

Have you read this trilogy? What did you think of Godsgrave? I would love to hear from you in the comments!
