Royal Update #195

We thought it was time for a fun new post every week. In the Royal Update one of us updates you about our personal life, bookish news, what we’re reading, watching and listening to and anything else that might apply to this post. We thought it would be fun to share a bit more about our personal lives and hope you think so too!

Since my last Royal Update we’ve been finishing up our vacation and were actually pretty busy. We went to Amsterdam for the day, because I wanted to go to Waterstones. It’s a tiny one, but it was fun to visit. We also went to a couple of other bookstores and there was one I was really impressed by. Then later that week we went to see Jimmy Carr. He’s a bit much at times, but all in all it was a funny show. And on Saturday we had game night.

This past week I worked on Monday and Friday. I have to say it was rough after being off of work for three weeks, haha. Wednesday we went to see Home Free. The boyfriend and I went to see them in 2020 for our 10 year anniversary and the show was right before the pandemic really hit. We loved the show so much we decided to go back. Another amazing show and I definitely see myself going to another concert in the future.

To end our vacation we had book club on Saturday and had a relaxing evening. Then on Sunday we want to YALFU. I got to meet some authors (Shannon Chakraborty, Catherine Doyle, Katherine Webber, and Bea Fitzgerald). It was fun listening them talk about writing and their books. I do have to say that the signing wasn’t organized very well. There were two time slots, but barely anyone actually kept to that (and it wasn’t checked). All of the authors were at one table, so before you could get through everything. Also, they didn’t give a hard limit for books, so by the time I was able to get my book signed by Shannon, she wasn’t personalizing them anymore, because it was running late. So I really feel like the people who actually stuck to their time slot were punished. I really hope that the next time they do this event they think it through.

Since my last Royal Update I’ve added a few eARCs to my Kindle.

Since my last Royal Update I’ve read: Little Creeping Things, Crown of Midnight (re-read), Red Rising, The Reunion, Everly Dalton’s Dating Disasters, Cat & Gamer Vol. 1+2, The Block Party, The Way of Kings, Brynn and Sebastian Hate Each Other, and My Dress Up Darling Vol. 2-6.

I’m currently reading Flawless, Still Beating, The September House, Salt in the Wound and Addicted to You.

Up next I’ll be reading Good Bad Girl, The Fall of Bradley Reed, Faking Christmas and Better Hate Than Never.

I’ve been pretty busy these last two weeks, so I haven’t really been paying attention to bookish news. Hopefully I have something to share next time.

Yesterday I went to YALFU and besides meeting the authors like I talked about earlier in this post, I also bought some bookish things. I bought three TBR decks. I thought it’d be fun to have random prompts to pick from if I don’t know what I want to read. I got two general decks and one romance deck. I also got some new bookmarks. I keep using the “boring” ones you get with the bookstore’s name on them, but now I have some cute seasonal ones.

I know it’ll surprise a lot of people, but up until last week I had never watched The Nightmare Before Christmas. So I finally decided to change that during our weekly family movie night on Sunday. It was an interesting one and I’m glad I can now say I’ve seen it.

As a fan of Ed Sheeran, I had to listen to his new album Autumn Variations.

So that’s my Royal Update for this week! How have you been? Have you done anything fun lately or read amazing books? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear from you.
