As I’ve mentioned before, one of my important reading goals of 2023 is shrinking my physical TBR. Sometimes it’s hard to think of what books I still have or subjects I want to read about. So we needed a way to keep track of this. 5 On My TBR is a way of keeping track. This is a meme hosted by E from Local Bee Hunter’s Nook. Every week there’s a different prompt for five on my TBR.
This week’s topic is novellas. I’m normally not a big fan of short stories. They tend to be really hit or miss for me and I mostly stick to ones that belong to a series I’m loving. I do have a few on my TBR though, including a few anthologies.
Blackout – Dhonielle Clayton, Tiffany D. Jackson, Nic Stone, Angie Thomas, Ashley Woodfolk & Nicola Yoon
Six authors came together and each wrote a story about what happens during a heatwave when all the lights go out. This sounds like a fun read and I’m curious to see if the stories are all connected in one way or another.
Whiteout – Dhonielle Clayton, Tiffany D. Jackson, Nic Stone, Angie Thomas, Ashley Woodfolk & Nicola Yoon
The six authors I just talked about also wrote the book Whiteout together. A snow storm shuts down the city and 12 friends try and help their friend pull off an epic apology. Just like with Blackout I’m curious to see how these authors all create this story.
Night of Cake & Puppets – Laini Taylor
So even though I still need to read the final book in the Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy I loved the first two books. Night of Cake & Puppets is a novella about Mike and Zuzana. Both of these characters are a lot of fun and I want to read their little adventure. I’ve flipped through the book and there are some stunning illustrations as well.
Nick and Charlie – Alice Oseman
After loving the Heartstopper books and reading Solitaire, I thought it was time to read the novellas. I read This Winter last month and hope to read Nick and Charlie soon. Nick will be heading off to university soon, but how will this affect their relationship?
Even If the Sky is Falling – Edited by Taj McCoy
Lane Clarke, Farah Heron, Taj McCoy, Charish Reid, Sarah Smith and Denise Williams came together to write this interconnected anthology. An international warning siren accidentally goes off and makes everyone think that a meteor shower is going to be the end of the world. Six couples take shelter and I’m sure a lot is revealed.
So here are five novellas/anthologies I have on my TBR. Do you have any favorite short stories or anthologies you love? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear from you!
