Another Down the TBR Hole post where I can start off saying that I have less books on my want to read shelf than when I started my last post. I actually read a few of my physical books on this shelf.
Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story. It looked like a fun and productive way to finally make a dent in that Goodreads TBR. I went through my want-to-read shelf a little while ago but I think I was still to kind on a lot of books. Let’s see what I’ll make of it this time around. I decided to go with 10 books at a time so lets get started!
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
- Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!
Current “to-read” shelf: 828 (my last post ended at 831. So that’s three books less than last time.)
This May End Badly – Samantha Markum
This May End Badly was a book I saw around a lot right before it released last year. It has fake dating and it so much more. I’m sure this one will probably be a bit predictable, but it sounds really good.

This Might Get Awkward – Kara McDowell
I’ve read and enjoyed One Way Or Another by Kara McDowell and when I heard about This Might Get Awkward I just knew I had to read it. Mental health is something we’ve been seeing more in young adult books lately and I appreciate that. In This Might Get Awkward our main character has social anxiety. It also seems this has a touch of fake dating? Yes, please!
Keep
Bitter – Akwaeke Emezi
Pet was a book that left a lasting impression and I’ve been excited about the prequel, Bitter. I really need to add this book to my collection soon. Bitter is a character we meet in Pet and I’m curious about this story.
Keep
Fast Pitch – Nic Stone
I have to start off by saying I love the fact that Fast Pitch has a female main character who is going to do everything she can to have her team take home prize money. It’s nice having a female athlete in a story. That being said I don’t own this book and don’t think I’ll be buying it soon. I still want to read it, but for now I’m taking it off of my shelf.

Wildseed Witch – Marti Dumas
Wildseed Witch has a lot of elements I love in books: a main character who is passionate about something and has a channel/outlet for it, magic, and some type of boarding school. Our main character realizes she has magic and goes their to learn to control it., but is definitely in need of some catch-up compared to other students.

Come Out and Play – Amber Lynn Natusch
The Hometown Antihero books are so good and I’ve become so invested in these characters. This is the first book on today’s post that I’m surprised I haven’t read yet. I can’t wait to read how Ky’s story plays out.
Keep
Never Fall for Your Fiancee – Virginia Heath
In the last couple of years we’ve been getting a lot of historical rom-coms and it’s been interesting. I don’t read a lot of historical fiction, but these are a lot of fun. Never Fall for Your Fiancee had me on board, because it starts off with fake dating. We all know that’s all that has to be said for me to want to read a book!
Keep
Four Aunties and a Wedding – Jesse Q. Sutanto
Dial A for Aunties was so over the top, but it was so much fun. Four Aunties and a Wedding is the next book in this series and I’m excited to see what trouble everyone gets themselves into this time. I actually received this book last Christmas, so I’d say it’s time for me to sit down and read it.
Keep
Amari and the Great Game – B.B. Alston
Amari and the Great Game is another book I’m surprised I haven’t read yet. I loved Amari and the Night Brothers and actually bought this sequel to read during middle grade May. Things didn’t go as planned. Hopefully I can change that soon.
Keep
The Book Boyfriend: A Fake Relationship Sweet Romance – Carina Rose
I’m sure most romance readers have had dreams of their book boyfriend/girlfriend becoming real, but in this book the author has her own character come to life. This does sound funny, but I actually forgot about this book. I don’t own it either, so for now I’ll have to take it off the list.
