Tag | 1989 Book Tag

After last night’s announcement (we all knew it was coming!) I could only post one kind of post today and it had to be Taylor Swift related. More specifically, it had to be 1989 related. So when I saw this 1989 book tag by Reviews from a Bookworm I had to do it. Let’s take a look!

If you have no clue what I’m talking about, last night Taylor announced 1989 Taylor’s Version. It will be released October 27th and I’m super excited. I love all the attention and love Taylor is getting recently and I truly hope I will still get my hands on tickets one way or another haha. For now, let’s get into the questions.

Welcome to New York

You can want who you want, boys and boys and girls and girls.

1. A book with LGBT themes

I have to go with Never Ever Getting Back Together by Sophie Gonzales and not just because of the Taylor Swift reference. This was a really fun book with a cute f|f romance. I would highly recommend this one, and any other Sophie Gonzales book for that matter.

Blank Space

You can tell me when it’s over if the high was worth the pain.

2. A book that hit you right in the feels… but was totally worth it

I have to go with the Poppy War trilogy. That series broke me but was also absolutely amazing. There are a ton of trigger warnings for the books and those are definitely necessary because this was heavy and gut wrenching. But also so so good.

I’m a nightmare dressed like a daydream.

3. A book that you hated but you loved the cover

The covers in the Shatter Me series are gorgeous but after enjoying the books more and more I was really disappointed by Defy Me. So much so that I never picked up the last book in the series.

I’ve got a blank space baby and I’ll write your name.

4. Your latest book boyfriend/girlfriend

Aaron from the Only a Monster series is definitely my latest book boyfriend. He is morally grey but also wonderful haha. And I just wish him all the best. The final book in the series better gets him a happy ending!

Style

We never go out of style.

5. A timeless classic that you love

I’m not sure this counts as a classic but I’m going with Dune. There aren’t many classics that I’ve read but this is one I really enjoyed. It was one of my best friends childhoods favorites and it was worth the almost 700 pages haha.

Out of the Woods

The rest of the world is black and white, but we were in screaming colour.

6. A book with vivid world building

So I’m not sure if it counts as world building, but I adored Slay and especially everything about the game. It was described so well and I could totally imagine it. This book isn’t talked about nearly enough!

The monsters turned out to be just trees.

7. A book where things weren’t exactly how they seemed

The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle started off really confusing and you won’t know what is happening exactely until the end. And I loved every second of it! I wish I could experience this book for the first time again.

All You Had to Do Was Stay

You were all I wanted… but not like this.

8. A book you were eagerly anticipating, but ended up being disappointed by

I adored Red Queen and was really looking forward to Glass Sword, unfortunately it was not what I was hoping it would be. After years off putting it off, I did finally start reading the third book and I am enjoying it so far. Let’s hope that stays that way.

Shake It Off

The haters gonna hate…

9. A book/series that everyone seems to love but you can’t help but hate

Hate is a strong word, I don’t really hate books but after seeing a lot of love I was very disappointed by Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. It was just not for me, I liked the idea with the pictures but the story wasn’t enjoyable for me unfortunately.

10. A book/series you love but everyone else seems to hate

The Scholomance series doesn’t get nearly enough love! I feel like a lot of people don’t really love it, especially not the later books. But this is one of my favorite series. I loved the brutal environment, the characters and the plot.

I Wish You Would

I wish you knew I’ll never forget you as long as I live.

11. A book/series you know you will always love

A series that got me to fall in love with fluffy contemporaries is the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before series. And I will always love it for that. It was such a wonderful experience with relatable characters.

I wish you were right here, right now.

12. An upcoming release you wish you could have right now!

There are multiple books I would love to have right now, but House of Flame and Shadow has to be on top of that list. After the ending of House of Sky and Breath and all of the theories I’ve read online I just need to know what happens next haha.

Bad Blood

Now we’ve got bad blood, you know it used to be mad love.

13. A character you once loved but grew to hate

Love and hate are strong words but after liking Alina from the Shadow and Bone series i came to dislike her more and more. She just wasn’t my MC and although I love the Shadow and Bone tv show I still don’t like Alina haha.

Did you have to do this, I was thinking that you could be trusted.Did you have to ruin what was shiny, now it’s all rusted.

14. An author you haven’t forgiven for the things they did to your favourite characters/books

Looking at you Sarah J. Maas… I’m currently rereading Kingdom of Ash and I’m scared to continue because I know what’ll happen next and I’ve already been crying so much. The rest of this book will destroy me once again.

Wildest Dreams

I can see the end as it begins.

15. A book that was far too predictable

The premise of Firstlife sounded interesting but it was all just so predictable. This book hit all the plot points you’d expect from a YA dystopia.

Nothing lasts forever but this is getting good now.

16. A book/series that you wish could have gone on forever

The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes was amazing and I was so sad it ended after 4 books. I still have some hope we might get more books in the future, so if more people picked them up….. There are new covers and Jennifer Lynn Barnes is getting more attention so who knows! If you’re a Criminal Minds fan, this is the book series for you.

How You Get The Girl

That’s how it works, that’s how you get the girl.

17. One of your favourite books where they ‘got the girl’

Peeta showed us how you get the girl! Be there for her, get to know her and maybe don’t commit warcrimes… I will always love The Hunger Games and Peeta is a big part of that.

This Love

In darkest screams, in wildest dreams, I never dreamed on this.

18. A book that completely shocked you

I already mentioned the series but I just had to go with House of Sky and Breath. That ending! I was left flabbergasted even though I was warned. There was no way I saw that coming, probably the best cliff hanger ever.

I Know Places

Loves a fragile little flame it could burn out.

19. A book you thought you loved but quickly came to hate

I really thought I would love The Fallen, I adored the tv show based on the series; The Nine Lives of Chloe King. Unfortunately the book was a big let down and the series got cancelled after leaving us with a cliffhanger I’m still bitter about.

Something happens when everybody finds out. See the vultures circling dark clouds.

20. A book you didn’t want to be seen reading

I wish I didn’t read History Is All You Left Me in public haha, I was finishing the book on a plane and tried to not be seen crying haha. It was hard! Adam Silvera writes some real tearjerkers so be aware of that when you read his book haha.

Clean

The drought was the very worst, when the flowers that we’d grown together died of first.

21. When the wait between books made you forget everything that happened

Haha that happens to me every single time! If I’m not reading a sequel within the month I will probably have forgotten all the details.

By morning, gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean.

22. A book/series you wiped from your memory.

Too many to remember to be honest. When I was looking through my Goodreads I saw a lot of books I totally forgot about. My memory isn’t the best and that became really clear to me haha.

I love the questions in this tag, this was created really well! It was a little long, so it took me awhile to write but at the same time 22 questions is pretty perfect for a Taylor Swift tag (or 13, that would’ve been easier for me haha). I would love to hear what your favorite 1989 song is. Let me know in the comments!
