I have once again been influenced by something I saw on TikTok haha. When the Rookie premiered I wasn’t interested in it but after seeing an intriguing clip on TikTok I decided to give it a try. Was my initial idea correct or do I have another show to continue watching? Let’s take a look!
Starting over isn’t easy, especially for John Nolan who, after a life-altering incident, is pursuing his dream of joining the LAPD. As their oldest rookie, he’s met with skepticism from those who see him as just a walking midlife crisis.
Like I said, I wasn’t interested in this one at first. Which might seem strange because I do love these kind of shows! However, and I might be one of the only ones with this opinion, I’m not a fan of Nathan Fillion. There’s nothing wrong with him but I just don’t really like him if that makes any sense haha. So I never gave this show a try.
Enter the TikTok clip I saw. I actually watched 3 clips to see the complete thing so I was dedicated for sure haha. In those clips I saw a couple of actors I really like and I enjoyed the storytelling. So I decided to try a couple of episodes.
I’m currently over halfway in season 2 and I started watching it earlier this week haha. So yes, I watched a lot of episodes (35) in just a couple of days. That probably says it all already. I enjoy this show a lot! Cop shows are something I enjoy and I like the cases shown in this one. I used to love Rookie Blue and it’s fun to see another show about rookies.
The characters are great and I love that we don’t focus on just one ‘main’ character. Yes Nathan’s John Nolan is the main character but we also see some of the personal lives of the other rookies and their training officers. The sergeant is also the focus of some episodes. Since the other actors and characters are much more interesting to me, this is a good balance and definitely the reason I enjoy the show so much.
We already got a brutal death in those first 35 episodes and I’m past the clip I saw so I don’t think anyone is safe from now on. I do like it when there is the possibility of an important characters death although I don’t expect another one soon. But who knows! I would like it if some of the cases spanned more episodes, most are solved in just 1 even when they seem to be pretty big cases. Let’s hope there will be longer cases in the later seasons!
Have you watched this show? Do you usually watch cop shows? I would love to hear what your favorites are. Come talk to me in the comments!
I love The Rookie and have rewatched the entire series 3 times! I love the cast! Nolan is my least fav! I’ve shipped Chenford since the beginning, so that’s been fun! I also loved Rookie Blue and have watched that series twice! My latest obsession is Magnum PI and Will Trent ….oh, and Lincoln Lawyer! So fun to find another Rookie fan!
