5 On My TBR | Music

As I’ve mentioned before, one of my important reading goals of 2023 is shrinking my physical TBR. Sometimes it’s hard to think of what books I still have or subjects I want to read about. So we needed a way to keep track of this. 5 On My TBR is a way of keeping track. This is a meme hosted by E from Local Bee Hunter’s Nook. Every week there’s a different prompt for five on my TBR.

This week’s topic is Music. I listen to music almost constantly, adore Daisy Jones and the Six (both the book and the show) and would love to read more books about music and musicians. But do I have any on my TBR? Let’s take a look!

1. The Wicked + The Divine vol. 2 – Kieron Gillen & Jamie McKelvie

This graphic novel was the first book on my TBR that came to mind with this prompt. It’s about gods who come back to earth as humans every 90 years and then live like popstars before they die after 2 years. I enjoyed but didn’t love the first volume. But I saw the second volume in New York for a pretty decent price and decided to get it. I plan on reading it soon!

2. Space Opera – Catherynne M. Valente

I have been super excited about reading this one forever and I’m pretty sad I still haven’t. It’s pretty hard to sum up what this is about, there’s basically a big intergalactic competition where all species sing or dance or something similar in the talent show. And the outcome of the show will determine wether humans, who are competing for the first time, are allowed to stay I think. It sounds like a lot of fun and there will be a sequel at the end of the year so it looks like this year is the perfect time to finally pick this one up haha.

3. Wintersong – S. Jae-Jones

I got this one based on a raving review from a friend years ago but I have to admit I lost interest ever since. The book is described to be rich in magic and music so it does sound like something I would enjoy. It’s also about the Goblin King and since I haven’t read much about him, I do think that would be interesting. Maybe I should use this one in another try a chapter tag and see if I might like it.

4. Kings of the Wyld – Nicholas Eames

Okay this one is definitely a stretch haha. The series name is the Band, so you know that could have something to do with music haha. But the band is a band of mercenaries so no musicians here haha. I do feel like they could be singing when they’re on the road or hanging out around a campfire or in a tavern so maybe there is some music in here after all. The synopsis ends with: It’s time to get the band back together for one last tour across the Wyld. So you could’ve fooled me and say it was about a music band ;).

5. The Breakup Tour – Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka

I’m cheating again, because this one isn’t even released yet haha. But as soon as this one releases in January 2024 I will be reading it. It’s inspired by Taylor Swift so of course I have to read it. Candyce has read multiple books by this author duo and really enjoyed their work so I have high hopes!

This topic was harder than I thought it would be, possibly the most difficult one so far! I managed to make something of it though haha. What do you think of my picks? Have you read any of these books? I would love to hear from you in the comments!
