TTT #286 | Favorite Audiobook Narrators

We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is Favorite Audiobook Narrators. As a big audiobook fan you’d think this would be a perfect topic for me. However, I have to admit I couldn’t name one narrator if my life depended on it. I will share narrators of audiobooks I have enjoyed but I guess I wouldn’t call them favorites haha. Let’s jump in!

1. Stephen Fry

This one is actually a favorite and I feel really bad saying I wouldn’t be able to mention even one. I have listened to the Harry Potter audiobooks a lot and I adore Stephen Fry’s narration. He does a wonderful job and I can listen to him for hours and hours (and have done so haha).

2. Emily Woo Zeller

I recently listened to the Poppy War series book on audio and Emily Woo Zeller was the narrator. It was really enjoyable! I’ve also listened to the Bride Test which she narrated. After looking up all the books she did, I can tell you she did a LOT haha. Some of them I have on my to listen list so I’m sure I will listen to her again.

3. January LaVoy

This narrator did the Diviners series, another series I recently listened to. I loved those audiobooks so I guess January LaVoy did a really good job. There are so many books she did, although I didn’t see any I’m currently planning on listening to.

4. Stina Nielsen

So far I’ve only listened to one audiobook Stina Nielsen did; A Court of Silver Flames. But recently she has done some others I might listen to at some point. There aren’t a lot but I will keep my eyes on her name as a narrator from now on.

5. Laura Fortgang

Laura has narrated (or has been involved in the narration) of all Grishaverse books. I’ve recently listened to almost all of them and I really enjoy her narration. She also did the narration for Leigh Bardugo’s other series; the Alex Stern series with Ninth House and Hell Bent. I’m very curious about those book and might listen to them knowing the narration is by Laura Fortgang.

6. Lisa Flanagan

So far I’ve only listened to The Library of the Unwritten narrated by Lisa Flanagan. But I did enjoy that one a lot. Looking at the other books she’s done I don’t think I’ll listen to her again any time soon but who knows! I think she did a good job so I hope to see her name attached to something more my genre again.

7. Alexander Cendese

Looking at the books Alexander Cendese narrated I don’t think I’ll listen to him again as they’re not really in any of my genres haha. But I loved the narration of the All For the Game series and he did all three. I have listened to the whole series twice (and I binged them super fast), I think I will listen to them a couple more times at some point!

8. Laurence Bouvard

I’ve listened to the last two books in the Will Trent series by Karin Slaughter recently.  Laurence Bouvard did the narration and I really liked it. I saw some disappointed reviews since they changed narrator after the 8th book. But since these were my first Will Trent audiobooks, I didn’t mind it at all!

9. Elizabeth Evans

I’m currently listening to the Throne of Glass audiobook, which Elizabeth Evans narrates. She was also part of the Six of Crows & Crooked Kingdom narration which I already said I loved haha. I plan on listening to more Sarah J. Maas audiobooks so I will definitely listen to more by Elizabeth Evans, she also narrates some Elise Kova books I have on my wishlist.

10. Candice King / Melissa Fumero / Emily Bett Rickards

These aren’t actually narrators I guess, but they are actresses I love and they each narrated one novella from the Ghosts of the Shadowmarket anthology. I loved listening to them a lot and wish we could get more books narrated by each of them. They have wonderful voices!

This was pretty hard! But I managed to compile a list of 10 (or actually 12) audiobook narrators I enjoyed listening to. Most I would’ve have been able to pick out of a list of names but since I enjoyed the audiobooks they did, I guess I liked their work! If not, I probably wouldn’t have finished the audiobooks haha. I would love to hear you take on these narrators. Do you have favorites? Or ones you really dislike? I would love to hear from you in the comments!

  1. I’m trying to get into audiobooks, so this is such a helpful post! I’m really struggling finding narrators that I like.

    1. I hope you find some you like! Since getting into audiobooks I’m not sure how I ever coped without haha. They are the main reason I’ve been going through books the last couple of years <3

    1. Thank you! I’m so sad Candice only did one short story, it was great.

    1. Yes, he should be on many lists! Happy to hear he’s on yours as well. I can never get over his narration of the HP series.

    1. Thank you! It was definitely a challenging one, but that is fun every now and then!!

    1. So happy to hear that! And yes, she did an amazing job on the Poppy War series!!

    1. Exactly! Haha, I could never finish a book with an annoying narrator!

  2. I listened to Elizabeth Evans do Kingdom of Ash (as the physical book was just too long for me to get through) and I enjoyed her performance. I also love January LaVoy, I also listened to The Diviners series by her and I kept going with the series when I was a little unsure after the first book because I enjoyed her narration so much and was very glad I did because I loved the rest of the series!
