Again, I’m setting up this Down the TBR Hole post pretty soon after the previous one. So nothing has changed about my want to read shelf. I’m hoping to shrink my shelf a bit by doing these posts back to back!
Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story. It looked like a fun and productive way to finally make a dent in that Goodreads TBR. I went through my want-to-read shelf a little while ago but I think I was still to kind on a lot of books. Let’s see what I’ll make of it this time around. I decided to go with 10 books at a time so lets get started!
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
- Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!
Current “to-read” shelf: 879 (my last post ended at 879. So nothing has changed since my last post.)
Take Me Home Tonight – Morgan Matson
Two best friends run off to NYC for the night and seem to go on an interesting adventure. I have a feeling while everything plays out they’re going to realize they’re more than friends. At least I hope so. Morgan Matson is an author I’ve enjoyed before, so I’m still excited about reading Take Me Home Tonight.
Keep
The Corpse Queen – Heather Herman
The Corpse Queen is a historical fiction thriller. I’m intrigued because the synopsis says our main character becomes a grave robber, but ends up entangled in a murderer’s plans. This makes it seem like this is going to be an intense ride. Sounds like the perfect type of book to read near Halloween.
Keep
Dark Rise – C.S. Pacat
I remember seeing Dark Rise everywhere when it first released. We start off a journey of the battle between Light and Dark. Those tend to be amazing stories, so I still want to see what Dark Rise is about.
Keep
The Break-Up Book Club – Wendy Wax
Stories where people are brought together by books are always something I want to read. The synopsis of this book reminds me a bit of The Bromance Bookclub, but not as funny? Books are magic and I love reading about characters who love reading.
Keep
The Hiddenseek – Nate Cernosek
The Hiddenseek is a middle grade horror book that takes two characters into a different world. This book is based on hide-and-seek. I still think this would be the perfect book to read around Halloween, but I have so many middle grade books to get to and I don’t own this one yet. So for now, it’s being taken off of my want to read shelf.
Remove
Talk Bookish to Me – Kate Bromley
All I needed to know about Talk Bookish to Me is that the main character is a bestselling romance author and an influential bookstagrammer. Will she finally get her own romance?
Keep
Back in the Burbs – Tracy Wolff & Avery Flynn
The only thing I’ve read by Tracy Wolff is her YA series Crave. So when I first heard about Back in the Burbs I was very intrigued. While this book still sounds interesting, I don’t know when I’ll get around to reading it with all of the romance books on my TBR.
Remove
Aurora’s End – Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
Aurora’s End is the final book in this trilogy and I’ve been scared to read it, haha. The first two books were amazing, but the authors aren’t nice to the characters. I’m working on finishing series this year, so it is on my list of books to read this year.
Keep
The Half Orphan’s Handbook – Joan F. Smith
I’m a reader who loves hard-hitting contemporary stories and The Half Orphan’s Handbook sounds like it’ll be one of those books. Our main character loses her father and is sent to grief camp. I definitely still want to read this, but I don’t own it at the moment.
Remove
Archimancy – J.A. White
I loved Nightbooks by this author, so when I heard about Archimancy I was intrigued. I’m a big fan of books that take place at boarding schools.Three friends are on a quest to unravel the school’s secrets. I want to read this around Halloween.

Removal Percentage: 30%
Current “to-read” shelf: 876
At least I was able to remove a few from my want to read list. Another list of books that sound amazing this week. Have you read any of these? What book should I pick up first? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear from you.
Great post, such a great idea! I hope you enjoy someone of the books you have decided to keep
Back in the Burbs and The Corpse Queen are both ones I’d like to read.
