Isabelle has done the try a chapter book tag a few times and recently decided to do this with older Netgalley galleys. We started the blog almost 6 years ago and Netgalley was a big rabbit hole when we discovered it.
After a few years, I’m not sure some of these books will be for me anymore, so let’s do a try a chapter tag to see if the first chapters makes me want to read more. I’m trying to increase my ratio and also give books a chance, so this seemed the best way to do it. Let’s take a look at the three books I chose for this week!
Stardust – Audrey Coulthurst & Paula Garner (2019)
So I love the idea of these two characters finding peace and a way to escape in made up world they develop when texting. Honestly though, I don’t think this book is for me. I got 5% in and was still working on the chapter and decided I just couldn’t do it anymore. The main character describes and compares everything and it’s getting on my nerves. I’m not sure Zoe’s POV will be the same and it’s just the author’s writing style, but it’s just not for me.
The Gamer’s Guide to Getting the Girl – Kristine Scarrow (2019)
So I’m not a gamer myself, but my boyfriend is. When I heard about this book I was curious and as usual got very distracted. I read the first chapter and I have to say I’m intrigued. From the looks of it our main character is about to get stuck in the mall during a storm. He just met the girl of his dreams who seems to be a gamer too! I want to see how this continues.
The Lost Coast – Amy Rose Capetta (2019)
The prologue isn’t very long and doesn’t really give me a lot to go on. I did find it a bit weird our main character’s mother let her daughter pick where they moved. We don’t know why they move, but there has to be some reason. After reading a few reviews, because the chapter wasn’t very long, I’ve decided I don’t think this one is going to be for me.
So here are three 2019 books that I wanted to give a shot with this week. After reading the first chapter of each book I’ll only be continuing with The Gamer’s Guide to Getting the Girl. Have you read any of these books? Let me know what you thought if you have!
