Down the TBR Hole #97

Last time I ended at 881 books on my want to read shelf on Goodreads. After writing that post I actually ended up reading one of the books in that post and it was amazing! So I’m starting off with one book less on that shelf this week.

Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story. It looked like a fun and productive way to finally make a dent in that Goodreads TBR. I went through my want-to-read shelf a little while ago but I think I was still to kind on a lot of books. Let’s see what I’ll make of it this time around. I decided to go with 10 books at a time so lets get started!

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “to-read” shelf: 880 (my last post ended at 881. So I’ve reduced this shelf again by one book!)

The Jasmine Project – Meredith Ireland

Our main character has planned to move in with her longtime boyfriend before starting the nursing program at a community college. Except she catches him cheating. Her family thought of a solution: use her graduation party as a way for her to meet new bachelors. From the sound of it this doesn’t go drama free and could become a nightmare. My kind of book!

Keep

Just Roll with It – Lee Durfey-Lavoie & Veronica Agarwal

Middle grade books are the best when dealing with different lessons or having characters you don’t get to meet in a lot of books (like the main character here that deals with OCD and anxiety). I love that this is a graphic novel and the main character seems like she’ll be using D&D to help deal with processing everything. I don’t own this yet, but that may need to change soon.

Keep

A Lot Like Adios – Alexis Daria

I really enjoyed You Had Me at Hola and A Lot Like Adios is the next book in this series. It seems that people are either loving or hating this one. I guess I just have to read it soon and find out what I think.

Keep

Killer Content  – Olivia Blacke

Thrillers and mysteries are something I’ve started reading more of and cozy mysteries belong in this category as well. I own the two books in this series and it’s another one I need to read soon.

Keep

ExtraOrdinary – V.E. Schwab

ExtraOrdinary is a 1.5 in the Villains series and is a graphic novel. I got my copy from Illumicrate and I couldn’t tell you why I haven’t read this yet. Maybe it’s because I’m still debating if I want to reread Vicious.

Keep

Before We Disappear – Shaun David Hutchinson

A queer historical book that takes place in the  1909 Seattle Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Expedition and is about two magicians that fall in love amidst a rivalry. This book is over 500 pages long, but Before We Disappear sounds like my kind of book.

Keep

The Holiday Switch – Tif Marcelo

I actually started reading The Holiday Switch, but never finished and I don’t know why. I remember enjoying what I had read. Our main characters seem to be enemies and accidentally switch phones. Could the secrets they discover bring them closer together?

Keep

Skin of the Sea – Natasha Bowen

I want to say that Skin of the Sea is a Little Mermaid retelling, but I’m not 100% sure. All I do know is that a lot of my friends gave this one high rating and I’m still intrigued.

Keep

Gilded – Marissa Meyer

Gilded is one I’m going to be taking off this shelf. Not because I don’t want to read this Rumpelstiltskin retelling, but because it’s saved as the wrong format. Well, not necessarily wrong, but I believe I have it saved a second time as well. I own Gilded and definitely need to sit down with this book.

Remove

Accidentally Engaged – Farah Heron

I love books with marriages of convenience or fake dating, so I had to add Accidentally Engaged to my TBR. I mean the characters over food and fake being together for a couples video cooking contest. Sounds good to me!

Keep

Removal Percentage: 10%
Current “to-read” shelf: 879

Another Down the TBR has been completed and things didn’t go as planned. I actually only removed one book from my want to read shelf. What do you think? Would you have made different decisions? Or what should I read first? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear from you.
