I’ve been a fan of Teen Wolf since it first aired on MTV and have watched it all rigorously. Since the show ended I have rewatched all seasons multiple times, especially season 3 as it is the very best season. Of course I was super hyped when the movie was announced! It’s incredibly disappointing that we won’t see Dylan O’Brien as Stiles but other than that I couldn’t wait. So after watching it last week, I obviously had to share my thoughts. Was it as good as I hoped it would be? Let’s take a look!
A terrifying evil has emerged. The wolves howl once again, but only a Werewolf like Scott McCall, can gather both new allies and reunite trusted friends to fight back against what could be the most powerful and deadliest enemy.
The first almost half of the movie was all about catching up with the characters, were are they, what are they doing now (and why do half of them don’t seem to speak anymore…). I loved seeing them back on the screen and are probably very forgiving since I love the show so much.
The plot of the movie was okay, but I do think that most of it was just a rehash of earlier seasons but in a less exciting way. I think they should’ve gone for a different plot or they should’ve rewritten part of the plot as it was a let down in certain fronts. There were also a couple of things that didn’t make sense at all and I was very disappointed by the reveal of the enemy.
The movie lacked a good soundtrack and some of the characters barely interacted. And let’s not talk about the ending… That was so unnecessary! Also, I feel like there were some things that should’ve been acknowledged at the end but they never did. Maybe they’re planning for a sequel (but they better offer to pay everyone more equal so Dylan O’Brien will participate).
While I loved getting new material, overall I was a bit disappointed. For my next rewatch I’ll probably stick to the show and skip the movie. I’m not even sure I would recommend watching it. It wasn’t super bad, it just didn’t live up to the amazing show we all loved so much. I’m super curious to hear your opinion, have you watched it? Will you? Or what did you think about it?
