Bookhaul | January 2023

The first month of the year is over, so it’s time to take a look back! Today is our January bookhaul. Did we add any new books to our shelves? Keep on reading to find out in our first bookhaul of 2023.

Candyce

I’m really trying to only buy books this year I know I’ll be reading almost right away. Shrinking my physical TBR is important to me. I did visit the bookstore twice this month and couldn’t leave empty-handed. Most of these are for buddyreads this month though, so that should be a good sign when we take a look at this haul next year, haha. I ended up adding

Kingdom of the Wicked – Kerri Maniscalco

So I read Kingdom of the Wicked when it first released in 2020 as an eARC. We’re doing a group read, so I decided to grab the paperback for my reread. I’m actually enjoying it more the second time around. Maybe because I’m reading it with less expectations?

Nine Liars – Maureen Johnson

Truly Devious has become one of my favorite seasons and I’m glad to got a fifth book in the series. The paperback is floppy and that makes me very happy. I’m currently reading this one now and it’s great to be back in this world.

Five Survive – Holly Jackson

The A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is a great series, so I had to support this author again by buying this book. I’ve heard great things about Five Survive so far and I’m excited to read it myself.

Cruel Illusions – Margie Fuston

Caraval meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Doesn’t that sound intriguing? This a dark YA fantasy I’m really excited about reading in February. I haven’t heard many people talk about it yet, but I have a feeling this will be one I love.

You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty – Akwaeke Emezi

The only book I’ve read by this author so far is Pet. That was quite a provoking middle grade read and I’ve been curious about You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty since I heard about it. This one has had many mixed reviews and I’m curious to see what I end up thinking about it.

Priest – Sierra Simone

Priest is a book I’ve heard quite a bit about watching BookTube videos and decided I wanted to give it a go. I only bought the first book so far to see what I think before picking up the rest.

How to Sell a Haunted House – Grady Hendrix

Horror isn’t my normal go to genre, but Grady Hendrix is an author I’ve wanted to try. How to Sell a Haunted House does sound like a book I could enjoy. I’m hoping to read a bit out of my comfortzone this year.

Isabelle

I finally have something to share at the bookhaul haha! Both physical and audio this time so let’s take a look.

Saga vol. 10 – Brian K. Vaughan & Fiona Staples

I adore this space drama and I’m so glad the hiatus is over. This was supposed to be one of my Christmas gifts but it was delayed unfortunately. But now I do have it and I can’t wait to read it and get back to this world and these characters.

Fence vol. 5 – C.S. Pacat

All of a sudden I saw that this one was out after not hearing anything for so long! So I immediately ordered it haha. I adore this series and I love having some graphic novels on my TBR.

Audible

The Dragon Republic – R.F. Kuang

I own a physical copy of this one as well but since audiobooks have been the way to go for me lately I decided to use my credit for this one. The Poppy War was amazing (and brutal) and I have been wanting to read the rest of the series ever since. Now is the time it might actually happen!

So this is our first bookhaul of the year! Have you read any of these? Or did you add any new books to your collection? Let us know in the comments! We’d love to hear from you.
