We’ve said it so many times this year, but 2022 really flew by. So much so we’re about to talk about our first 2023 anticipated releases. January is always a crazy publishing month, so it’s actually scary to look at what’s releasing, haha. If you’re curious, keep on reading to find out about our anticipated January releases.
The Stolen Heir – Holly Black (January 3rd)
I loved the Folk of the Air trilogy and I’m super curious about this sequel duology. We start of 8 years later and we follow Prince Oak. The other main character is Suren, child queen of the Court of Teeth. I might need to reread the original series before starting this, but I for sure will be reading it!
A Ruinous Fate – Kaylie Smith (January 3rd)
This debut sounds amazing. It’s a fantasy where the fate of witches is tied to Witch’s Dice. Our main character is only three Rolls away from starting the Final War and becoming the last Blood Warrior. I don’t even need to know more to be honest, this just sounds great. Sign me up!
Unseelie – Ivelisse Housman (January 3rd)
This book with a gorgeous cover sounds so interesting. We have an autistic main character, who is also a changeling. Her human twin sister has one of my favourite names; Isolde. There is also talk of a heist gone wrong and I can’t wait to see what this is all about.
Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute – Talia Hibbert (January 3rd)
I’ve only read an adult romance by Talia Hibbert, but I’m excited to read her first YA contemporary. Former friends are forced to work together. This is going to be an interesting story!
They’re Watching You – Chelsea Ichaso (January 3rd)
A Ya mystery thriller with a secret society at the heart of it. Sign me up! A best friend is trying to solve the disappearance of a member of the secret society. She’s sure her friend isn’t a runaway, has her friend been murdered? I can’t wait to find out.
Poison Roses – Jaymin Eve & Tate James (January 3rd)
Tate James is a new to me author this year and I’ve come to really love her writing. This will be her newest book written with another author. A mafia/rockstar reverse harem romance. That’s going to be an interesting ride. There will be 4 books and I believe we get one a month.
Lost In the Moment and Found – Seanan McGuire
The newest instalment in the Wayward Children series! This is a staple in the January releases list every year haha. We both love the series and are always excited for the newest sequel. This one is about a new world and a new main character.
City of Nightmares – Rebecca Schaeffer (January 10th)
I’ve mentioned this one a couple of times already. The story sounds very intriguing, if you dream you will wake up as your worst fear. I can’t wait to find out how that works. There’s more to the story but this was all I needed to know.
The Things We Do to Our Friends – Heather Darwent (January 10th)
I’ll admit I was mostly drawn in by the title haha. But the setting is something else I love, this mystery/thriller is set at the University of Edinburgh. We also get a toxic friendship and I don’t think I will ever get enough of reading about those.
Exes and O’s – Amy Lea (January 10th)
Ever since I read Set on You I’ve been excited to get a story about Crystal’s sister! She’s a bookstagrammer that reads romance and I definitely need that story. I was really lucky to get an e-arc of this and I’ll definitely be reviewing near release day.
The Rom-Com Agenda – Jayne Denker (January 10th)
Our main characters find love when they least expect it. That sounds like a great start to a rom-com. This book is described as a love letter to all things rom-com and that just makes me want to read it more.
Mysteries of Thorn Manor – Margaret Rogerson (January 17th)
This is a novella, and it’s a sequel to Sorcery of Thorns! I have been waiting on a sequel since I finished reading Sorcery of Thorns and I’m so happy we’re getting something. Even though it’s only a novella. It’s still 192 pages of story and I just can’t wait!
Seven Percent of Ro Devereux – Ellen O’Clover (January 17th)
This slow burn romance sounds so cute. Ro developed an app that predicts your future with 93% accuracy. And she has to prove it works so she can follow her dream of working in Silicon Valley. Unfortunately the app says her ex-best friend is her soul mate… So they start fake dating (my favorite thing in romance stories!).
A Guide to Being Just Friends – Sophie Sullivan (January 17th)
When two characters start a friendship when they both say they’re not ready for love things just may get interesting. We all know in stories like this feelings eventually come to the surface.
The Fraud Squad – Kyla Zhao (January 17th)
The Fraud Squad is a book I’ve been excited about since helping promote the preorder campaign and the cover reveal. Our main character gets a chance of a lifetime in high society, but risks losing herself. I have a feeling there is going to be a lot of drama, but also a lot of fun.
The Choice (January 19th) & The Consequence (January 26th) – Ashley Jade
After loving The Words last year I was excited to see the author chose to write a story about another band member. These covers are stunning and I love that the duology releases back to back! I’ve heard their pretty big books, but I’m excited!
Do I Know You? – Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Brokka (January 24th)
I’ve only read a YA book by this author duo, but have almost all of their books on a want to read list. A couple goes on a trip for their fifth anniversary, but feel out of place, because are they really in love? When they get introduced by a bartender they decide to pretend they don’t know each other at all. I think this will be an interesting story. Seeing if them getting to know each other again will put the spark back in their relationship!
Spice Road – Maiya Ibrahim (January 24th)
Another one I’ve talked about before. This is the start of a new fantasy trilogy and is set in an Arabian-inspired land. Also, this has tea magic so you can bet I’m interested!
The Black Queen – Jumata Emill (January 31st)
This is a YA murder mystery, one of my favourite things. And it sounds amazing. Nova was supposed to be the first Black homecoming queen in this town but was murdered the night of the coronation. Her best friend is convinced she knows who killed her. And I can’t wait to find out if she was right!
So these are the books we’re looking forward to that are releasing in January! What books are you looking forward to? Did we miss any? Let us know in the comments! We’d love to hear from you.
Can’t wait for Stolen Heir! I listened to an audio arc of City of Nightmares and really enjoyed it, hope you do!
Oh wow!!! So many good looking and sounding books! I’ve got a few on my anticipated releases list too! 😍
