Review| Brutal Prince – Sophie Lark

Sophie Lark is an author I’ve heard so many great things about and I was determined to give one of her books a try this year. I’m cutting it close to the end of 2022, but I finally read a book by her. Brutal Prince was a pleasant surprise! I read it in just about one sitting. So keep on reading to find out more about this book and my thoughts.

He’s No Prince Charming…

Callum Griffin is the heir to the Irish Mafia. He’s ruthless, arrogant, and he wants to kill me.

We got off on the wrong foot when I set a (very small) fire in his house.

Our families believe a marriage pact is the only thing that will prevent all-out warfare.

I think I might need to murder him while he sleeps.

This would all be a lot easier if Callum wasn’t so damned good-looking.

But I’ve got a lockbox around my heart. Because even if I’m forced to marry him…

I could never love a brutal prince.

“Brutal Prince” is the explosive first act in the epic “Brutal Birthright” series. It’s a stand-alone Dark Mafia Romance, complete with HEA and no cliffhangers. It contains blazing hot bedroom scenes for mature readers only!!!

Review

Enemies to lovers is always an interesting genre to read, but I feel it was done in such a great way in Brutal Prince. Once I started this book, I just couldn’t put it down. Sophie Lark wrote a story that kept me wanting more and I ended up loving the characters.

If I’m honest, Aida really annoyed me in the beginning. She felt very spoiled and thought she could do everything she wanted. While having to marry Callum isn’t a choice I would’ve wanted either when not liking him, she took some things a bit too far at first. That being said I loved seeing her change in this story. Aida is really a powerful woman who can stand her own ground and does everything for the ones she loves or is loyal with. She can be very feisty, but also has her soft and sensitive side that just wants to be loved.

Callum does a lot because of his father, but it’s clear he wants to do things his own way as well. He doesn’t plan on letting Aida do as she wants, but is determined to make her listen. He seems to be really straight to the point and doesn’t really show much emotion. That’s why I loved reading about him as the story went on. Aida really tapped in to a side of him he didn’t even know himself. It was clear he had some things to work on emotionally, but Callum definitely isn’t as cold as people think.

Aida and Callum as a couple was a lot of fun to read. At first they clearly don’t like each other and will do all they can to get on the other’s nerves. The tension between them becomes explosive when they finally give in to their attraction for the other. They slowly start trusting each other and realize working together may make life a lot easier. I’m very glad I decided to pick this book up.

This was my first mafia romance, but I don’t think it’ll be the last. Please be aware there is explicit violence in this book and it can be dark at times. Brutal Prince also has a cast of side characters I’m really curious about. Both have siblings that really need their own story! All in all, I’m so glad I finally picked up a book by Sophie Lark.

Now that I read and loved Brutal Prince I’ll be reading more of Sophie Lark’s backlist. As I’m typing this I’ve read a few chapters of Stolen Heir. Have you discovered any new authors or genres lately that you loved? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear from you.
