Review | The Love of My Other Life – CJ Connolly

Today is time for a new review. The Love of My Other Life is an interesting concept. What if you woke up tomorrow with the life you thought had everything you thought you were missing? Will it truly make you happy? This is the exact journey our main character ends up going on. Keep on reading to find out more about this book and what I thought!

A big thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an e-arc to read and review.

Imagine you woke up with the perfect life . . . But it wasn’t yours. Today is Josie’s 36th birthday. Josie’s a British ex-pat living in a tiny walk-up in Brooklyn. She misses her family, but her radio show is starting to go places. And sure, she could be a dress size smaller, but no one cares what you look like on the radio. Peter, the guy she’s had a crush on for months, is finally going to break up with his girlfriend. She hopes. She’s zipping through traffic on her way to meet Peter and her friends for dinner at a SoHo restaurant. There’s a screech of brakes, Josie crashes her bike and her world goes black. Then something extraordinary happens. She wakes up in hospital. The handsome man by her side, holding her hand and telling her he loves her, is Rob. Her husband of two years. They live in a chic Manhattan penthouse. She works in real estate. And she’s thirty pounds slimmer than when she got on her bike that morning. Josie has no idea how she got here. This new life is everything she ever wanted. But there’s one thing missing . . .And now she has to decide: should she go back to her old single life in Brooklyn or stay with the love of her nearly perfect new life? What would you do?

I’m sure we’ve all had moments where we think about the what-ifs of choices we may or may have not made. Yes, Josie’s life isn’t completely perfect, but things seem to be looking up and she even may be making progress with the guy she’s been crushing on. When he gets in an accident on her 36th birthday, she wakes up in the hospital with a strange man claiming to be her husband.

What made this story so interesting is that even though Josie has everything she thinks she wants in this new life there are some drastic changes in people that she’s missing. This made everything more realistic as she’s trying to find her way in her new life. That being in both worlds, because there is also a Josie that wakes up in the first world we read about. I know this sounds confusing, but it definitely makes you think even more seeing both sides.

Add some romance elements and Josie’s story had me hooked and wanting to know whether she would stay in her current life or go back to her new one. It’s hard to say more about this book without spoiling, but it definitely makes you think about what you would do if you woke up in a different life the next day.

The Love of My Other Life was a thought-provoking, heartwarming, and interesting story.

I’d have to say that The Love of My Other Life definitely shows us that not everything is greener on the other side. This was a fast and interesting read. I’m glad I decided to give it a go! What would you do if you woke up tomorrow and your life was nothing like you knew?
