Bookhaul | August 2022

Yesterday we talked about the book we’re looking forward to that are releasing in September and today it’s time to talk about the new books we added to our shelves in August. What books did we buy or receive? Keep on reading to find out in our August bookhaul.

Candyce

August was a good bookish month for me. Not only did I add some awesome books to my shelves, but I also got a library. I have 1,5 bookcases, 3 shelves above my bed, and one shelf downstairs left to fill. So I definitely have the room for the 9 books I added to my shelves in August. Let’s talk about what I got!

Things We Never Got Over – Lucy Score

So this was actually on my TBR for August, but I didn’t get around to reading it, haha. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this book. Also, Hodder & Stoughton published this one and I was able to get this shiny edition.

Thank You for Listening – Julia Whelan

I love the cover of Thank You for Listening and the fact that the main character is an audiobook narrator. I don’t think I’ve read a book with a main character that has that occupation, so it’s fun. This one has gotten some mixed reviews, but more positive than negative. I’m excited to read this one.

My Imaginary Mary – Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton & Jodi Meadows

These three authors are amazing at giving history and a twist and make me laugh out loud. So I knew I needed My Imaginary Mary when it released. I’m always amazed that I can’t tell three authors worked on this book. The writing is always amazing.

Heart Bones – Colleen Hoover

I’m slowly working my way through Colleen Hoover’s backlist, so I had to add Heart Bones to my shelves. Look at this colorful cover! This is another book of hers that I’ve heard amazing things about and have to say I agree with them. I already read this one and I loved it!

Blood Like Magic & Blood Like Fate – Liselle Sambury

In the TBR and Beyond Facebook groupĀ  I host a series readalong with two others every month. We tackle a series at a time and September and October will be the Blood Like Magic duology. The main character must kill her first love to save her family’s magic. That’s not going to be easy. I’m excited to see how this story plays out.

Hook, Line and Sinker – Tessa Bailey

After loving It Happened One Summer more than I expected I needed to add Hook, Line and Sinker to my shelves as well. In August my swoonalong group read the first book and plan on reading this one in September. Hannah was a fun character in It Happened One Summer and I’m excited for her story.

Love on the Brain – Ali Hazelwood

After loving The Love Hypothesis I’ve been waiting for this book to release. Love on the Brain has the cutest cover! This is another book I’ll be reading in September for the swoonalong I host. Hopefully we all love it!

You & I Rewritten – Chip Pons

The final book I ordered in August was You & I Rewritten. I have to say this was definitely a cover buy, but the story sounds amazing. I’ve seen quite a few people talk about it and I’m excited to read it myself.

Isabelle

This month my bookhaul is a bit more exciting! I have an audiobook and some physical books, can you believe it haha. Let’s take a look.

The Agathas – Kathleen Glasgow & Liz Lawson

I got this one at Barnes&Nobles in the States. It was fun to browse the aisles and while they didn’t have most of the books I was looking for I did manage to get this one. And this is one I was looking forward too a lot! I can’t wait to start reading it.

Death Note Black Edition vol. VI – Tsugumi Ohba

I finally got my hands on this final volume in the Death Note saga. It was a difficult one to get for a while and I can’t wait to read it. Looks like I will actually finish another series this year haha.

Cain’s Jawbone – Torquemada

This is more puzzle than book but I’m just so excited about it. There are a 100 pages with 6 murders. But the pages aren’t in the correct order. You have to figure out which 6 people got killed and who killed them! And you also have to find out in which order the pages are supposed to go. I can’t wait to start this amazing puzzle.

Wordslut: A Feminist Guide to Taking BackĀ the English Language – Amanda Montell

I don’t often buy non-fiction books but I’m very excited about this one. It was mentioned by someone I follow on TikTok and Instagram, she mentioned taking back the word Fangirl which can have a negative connotation. I started reading it and it is super interesting!

Audible

All Good People Here – Ashley Flowers

I listen to Crime Junkie every week and I love the sound of Ashley’s voice and her storytelling. So of course I had to have her debut book. It’s a crime story, obviously, but this time it’s a work of fiction. Ashley read the first chapter on an episode of Crime Junkie and I was hooked right away.

So these are the books we added to our shelves in August! Have you read any? Or did you add any books to your shelves you’re excited about? Let us know in the comments! We’d love to hear from you.
