Review

When I saw With Fire in Their Blood being pitched for fans of VE Schwab I knew I needed to sign up for the blog tour immediately. A supernatural romance set in Italy? Yes, please! Add a beautiful cover and I as ready to sit down and read.

With Fire in Their Blood pulled me in right away and Ket Delacorte’s writing made it very easy to want to keep on reading this story. The setting and tone of the book is exactly what I was expecting after reading the synopsis. Castello is dark, eerie, mysterious, and had me asking a lot of questions. This is definitely the perfect type of book for a dark and rainy day. I read it all in just about one sitting.

Lilly didn’t have it easy. After losing your mother and being dragged to a completely new country with your father you don’t have the greatest bond with definitely would be a struggle for most. I actually felt bad for her, because it really felt that he also kind of left her on her own to discover how this new place worked. There’s definitely a dramatic element to this story and the feud between both sides of Castello was definitely interesting. There were definitely some twists and surprises, but I was a bit disappointed, because I guessed almost all of them. I needed just a bit more character development, world building, and some more information about the magic. It’s so interesting, but I just needed more!

That being said I did still enjoy this atmospheric start of a fantasy series and want to know how it continues. So much can still happen and I’m hoping to find out more in the next book. I also want to know more about the amazing cast of side characters this author added to this story.

Kat Delacorte was eleven years old when her family moved from the United States to a small town in central Italy. She soon began writing stories about her new friends developing superpowers, and she hasn’t looked back since. She graduated with a BA in History from Columbia University, and lives in Venice, Italy.

 

All in all, With Fire in Their Blood was an interesting read! I definitely want to read more by Kat Delacorte. I love when a book it’s atmospheric and pulls you in. What was the last book that did that for you? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear from you.
