With The Final Gambit coming out next week I wanted to recommend some of Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ older books as I love them dearly. I have been talking about this author non stop but I just can’t help myself haha. She has written some of my favorite books and I hope they can finally get the attention they deserve. Let’s take a look!

If you liked Knives Out:

The Inheritance Games might be for you! I had to get this one out of the way first haha. This is the series that has finally gotten Jennifer Lynn Barnes the attention she deserves and I adore the series. If you enjoyed the movie Knives Out, I think you’ll enjoy this story. There is an old rich man, leaving his fortune to someone unexpected and we have the rich family who might not be so happy with that. There are also a lot of games throughout the house and the overall vibe of the book and movie are pretty similar in my opinion!

 

If you liked Scandal:

The Fixer might be for you! The main character is a teenage Olivia Pope in the making and there is quite some fixing to do. I loved the fixing element of the earlier Scandal seasons and was so happy to see that again in these two books. While I’m still secretly hoping we’ll get a third book at some point, I did highly enjoy the two books we did get. There was some political stuff, a lot of suspense and some great twists and turns. Highly recommend this duology!

 

If you liked Criminal Minds:

The Naturals will be right up your alley! Criminal Minds is one of my absolute favorite tv shows ever (we are getting a new 10-episode season!) so anything that has links to it is exciting to me. When I saw the Naturals series, which was pitched for Criminal Minds fans I had to read it immediately. And this series did not disappoint! It’s one I should reread soon actually. I love the characters dearly and loved the cases the books handled. Book three is probably my favorite, but the conclusion in book 4 was amazing as well! Another one I highly recommend haha.

 

If you like werewolves and dislike cliche stories:

You will love Raised by Wolves. To be honest, this is a recommendation for simply everyone as I don’t see how you can dislike this series (although admittedly it has been about 8 years since I last read this series). There aren’t that many great werewolf books in my opinion but this one is one of the best. It surprised me a lot and I still think about it all these years later. I might even reread it soon!

 

Jennifer Lynn Barnes has written more than these 4 series, and some books I loved a lot aren’t mentioned here. But I think this is a great start if you want to check out (more of) her work!
