I’m definitely a reader always open to trying new to me authors (even if it isn’t good for my TBR). I recently saw a sign up for the latest book in the Astrid Scott series and these books sounded amazing. You could also choose to review the whole series, so that’s what I did. I read the first book Pretty Lies and want to tell you more about this book and what I thought!
A big thanks to the author and Peachy Keen Author Services for my e-arc to read and review.
New town. New school. Same lies.
This is my senior year, and not only have my parents moved me to a new place where I know nothing and no one, they are determined to make me fall in line with the life they want me to have.
Not the life that I want. But what fits perfectly into their world.
I’m looking for any possible way to escape this prison and leave them behind. Which has been harder than I thought.
An opportunity to escape appears. And I’m going to take it. I’m going to use four so-called perfect guys in this new town to make it happen. The ones that have it all, or so everyone thinks.
And they’re going to be my ticket out.
Review
Pretty Lies was a good start of getting to know the characters we’ll (hopefully) be seeing in the next books. Blake Blessing’s writing sucked me in and I couldn’t put it down. If I didn’t have to work I would’ve actually finished this in one sitting.
Astrid just moved to a new town with her parents. Her life at home isn’t a great one and she just wants to get through senior year and find her way. I definitely felt for Astrid and her home life. It definitely couldn’t have been easy. Her love of taking pictures to freeze moments of emotion no one notices was really interesting. I loved how excited she got with exploring photography and a way for her to get what she wants. I do feel like we still have a lot to learn about this character.
From what I understand this series is supposed to be a reverse harem and I loved slowly seeing the interests being introduced to the story without major instalove characteristics. It was nice seeing them just get to know each other and start to possibly explore their feelings. This definitely felt more natural to me and I hope to get more chapters from their POV in the next books. They’ve definitely caught my attention and I love how everything came together when she showed her photography portfolio.
Besides this aspect of the story there is some high school drama that does go a bit far and some other twists I didn’t quite see coming. Blake Blessing has definitely caught my attention and I really want to know what will happen next.
Pretty Lies was a great start to the series and I’m really curious to see where things will go with Astrid and her guys. Have you read any new to you authors lately that you ended up loving? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear from you.
