Looking Back at Our Bookhauls| May 2021

It’s that time of month again that we take a look back at bookhauls from last year. Seeing how we just talked about the books we added to our shelves in May, we’ll be looking back at our May 2021 bookhaul. These posts are always interesting, because have we read any of the books we bought last year? Keep on reading to find out!

Candyce

So last month wasn’t very successful and I know this month may be worse, haha. I think that because last year I visited my favorite bookstore in May and bought quite a few books. Hopefully this will be a good reminder to have me pick some up really soon. Let’s see how bad I did, because in May I added 20 books to my shelves.

Scarlet Witch: The Complete Collection – James Robinson
Unread

I decided last year that I wanted to read more about Scarlet Witch after watching WandaVision. Why I still haven’t done this? No clue, haha. I need to pick this one up soon.

The Block – Ben Oliver
Unread

Okay, so the third book in this trilogy is now out and I still need to read the first two. Oops! The concept still really interests me, but I just really need to make time to sit down with these books.

Red Tigress – Amelie Wen Zhao
Unread

Another series that now has released its third and final book. Blood Heir was great book from what I remember. I may need a refresher before continuing with this one.

The Girls I’ve Been – Tess Sharpe
Unread

The Girls I’ve Been is a book that quite a few friends recommended, so who am I to say no to a good recommendation? A con artist’s daughter gets kidnapped during a bank robbery. That’s still something that sounds interesting to me.

Realm Breaker – Victoria Aveyard
Unread

Okay, so Realm Breaker isn’t completed, but I did start reading this one. I believe I even got about halfway. Once again I got distracted, haha. The sequel releases this month, so I have to see if I can pick up where I left off or if I have to start from the beginning.

Witches Steeped in Gold – Ciannon Smart
Unread

Witches Steeped in Gold got a lot of praise before it released and I was really curious. This is another one I started reading, but actually stopped after a few chapters, because I was having a hard time getting pulled in. I’m still debating if I’m going to unhaul this one or not.

The Winterhouse Mysteries – Ben Guterson
Unread

So I haven’t read this one, but I have read the first one in the series. It was a fun middle grade mystery and I have to say I’d love to stay in this hotel/house. I have a feeling there are a lot more mysteries and secrets to be discovered.

Re-Coil – J.T. Nicholas
Unread

Another one I haven’t read, but that still sounds really good. It’s an interesting concept that you don’t really die, but your consciousness is loaded into a different body when you do.

The Shadow in the Glass – J.J.A. Harwood
Unread

I have to say this is still a cover that really catches my attention. Our main character gets seven wishes. I’m curious to see how it all plays out.

Again Again – E. Lockhart
Read

Finally a book I actually read, haha. Again Again tells the story of a character in different universes. If I’m honest I’m still not sure what I read. It was definitely interesting, but not a favorite.

Honey Girl – Morgan Rogers
Read

Honey Girl is so much more than the romance I was expecting. There is a romance element, but it’s mostly about our main character figuring herself and her future out. This book made me laugh, but also cry. It also had an amazing cast of side characters that I loved.

Plain Bad Heroines – Emily M. Danforth
Unread

I’ve been intrigued by dark academia and Plain Bad Heroines is one that caught my eye. This book is huge and I think that’s why I haven’t sat down to read it yet. 2022 is the year of big books for me, so I’ll have to add this one to my autumn TBR.

Spark to Shadow – Atima Kim
Un-hauled

Spark to Shadow is a book I received for a tour and I love witches and magic. When I was cleaning out my shelves at the beginning of the year I realized after thinking about it that I probably wouldn’t be picking this one up. There are just so many books I want to read.

The Songbook of Benny Lament – Amy Harmon
Unread

Amy Harmon is an author I hear so many amazing things about, but haven’t tried yet. The Songbook of Benny Lament released last year and really caught my interest. There was a lot of hype and I still need to sit down and find out what it’s all about.

The Cost of Knowing – Brittney Morris
Unread

Out of all the books from this haul I’m the most surprised I haven’t read The Cost of Knowing yet. Slay was such an amazing book and I know that I’m going to love this one as well.

Shipped  – Angie Hockman
Read

Shipped was a fun enemies to lovers romance, but I do wish we got a bit more romance and a little less of the business aspect. I still wish I was on that cruise though. It sounded amazing. I actually have an e-arc of this author’s next book that sounds really good.

They Wish They Were Us – Jessica Goodman
Unread

Like I said in the haul post I bought this a few weeks after giving it to Isabelle. She has read it since then and enjoyed it, but it wasn’t her favorite. I’m still intrigued. This author actually just released a new book, so I’ll have to read them back to back.

Rule of Wolves – Leigh Bardugo
Unread

Rule of Wolves is another book I’ve started, but still need to finish. I was loving it, but just got distracted like I always do, haha.

Dial A for Aunties – Jesse Q. Sutanto
Read

Dial A for Aunties was such a fun book. It was very dramatic and over the top, but that’s what made it so much fun. The sequel is out now and I hope to read it soon!

In the Ravenous Dark – A.M. Strickland
Unread

In the Ravenous Dark was a book I received from Illumicrate and it’s stunning. Also, I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this book. Hopefully I can read it soon. There are just so many books to read!

End Result:
Read: 4/20 – 20%
Un-hauled: 1/20 – 5%
TBR:
15/20 – 75%

Isabelle

I was scared to look but I turned out that this time last year I was already slowing down my book buying a lot!! So I only got one new book haha. Makes for a pretty good result this time.

The Tea Dragon Society – Kay O’Neill
read

I loved this one! It’s such a sweet story and I adore the tea dragons. Wish I could get one haha. There are 2 more books in this series I believe and I would love to get them. They are a bit pricey but I will get them at some point haha.

End Result:
Read: 1/1 – 100%
TBR:
 0/1 – 0%

So that was another Looking Back at Our Bookhaul. Have you read any of these books? Let us know in the comments. We’d love to hear from you!
