Wrap Up| May 2022

Yesterday we talked about the books we added to our shelves which means today it’s time to talk about the books we read in May. Did we discover any new favorites? Are we happy with what we read? Keep on reading our May wrap up to find out!

Candyce

May actually seemed to be a slower reading month for me. I’m definitely happy with what I read, but I read less than I normally do. In the end I ended up reading 16 books! So definitely not bad at all. I think it just seems less because there are so many books I really want to read.

The Comic Con – Dee Lagasse

I was so excited to see a female main character with her own successful comic book that was being turned into a movie. The romance felt realistic and Atticus has scored points for the book boyfriend list.
Throne of Glass & Crown of Midnight – Sarah J Maas
Throne of Glass is one of my favorite series and the reason we have this blog in the first place. This is the fourth time I’ve read these two books and I love them just as much as the first time around. I’m still amazed bu the details I either missed the first time around or have just forgotten.
Shadow Princess – Caroline Peckahm & Susanne Valenti
The Zodiac Academy series is really addicting and even such a big book still isn’t enough. Things are getting very interesting and I go back and forth between liking characters and not knowing what to think. The ending of this one hurt and I know it’s only going to get worse.
Set On You – Amy Lea
I love when characters are influencers or are really passionate about something. Our main character wants to break gym stereotypes as a curvy plus-sized woman. What starts a little as a war with our male lead turns into an amazing romance. This book hit me in all the feels. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
The Book of Cold Cases – Simone St. James
I’ve been getting more into thrillers and mysteries and The Book of Cold Cases sounded intriguing. The audiobook was really good and there were definitely some twists and turns I didn’t see coming. I do think I missed some things while listening (sometimes my mind does wander), so I may eventually go back and read the physical book.
The Summer I Turned Pretty & It’s Not Summer Without You – Jenny Han
I’m the type of person that likes to read the books before watching an adaptation. The Summer I Turned Pretty will be on Amazon Prime June 17th. I have to say the first two books were fast reads. I love the idea of going to a beach house every year and how close they must all be. I do have to say though in many ways it was very predictable (which definitely isn’t always a bad thing), but I did enjoy the story. I’m reading the last book now.
7th Circle & Anarchy – Tate James
After loving the Madison Kate series so much I had to continue with the next series in this world. Tate James writes such addicting books and major cliffhangers. After two books in addicted to these characters. And I’m already halfway through the next book.
The Summer Proposal – Vi Keeland
Vi Keeland is an author I’ve been curious about and finally gave a book by her a try when a book club chose The Summer Proposal as our May read. Our main characters are likable. I laughed a lot while reading this and it definitely had some more serious aspects near the end. This won’t be my last book by Vi Keeland.
Dead Girls Never Talk – SJ Sylvis
Dead Girls Never Talk is the third book in SJ’s St. Mary’s series and it was so good. Dark, twisty, steamy, and hits you in all the feels. I can’t wait for more books in this world.
Only When It’s Us – Chloe Liese
Chloe Liese is an author I’ve only read one book by (The Mistletoe Motive) and I loved it. Only When It’s Us is the first book in the Bergman Brothers series that I’ve heard a lot about. I’m mad at myself for not starting this one sooner. This book was so much fun! I’m almost done with the second book in the series now.
Not the Witch You Wed – April Asher
Not the Witch You Wed was my swoon read of the month. This paranormal romantic comedy was light and refreshing. I loved that the magical world was mixed into the “normal” world. There was a lot of humor and I loved watching the main characters grow close.
All My Rage – Sabaa Tahir
All My Rage is a book I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about since it released. This one really hit me in all the feels, but I couldn’t stop reading. Sabaa Tahir really knows how to make you feel all of the emotions. I don’t think any review I write could do it justice.
All Downhill With You – Julie Olivia
All Downhill With You takes place in an amusement park our main character has worked in and loved as long as she can remember. I loved reading about how much that place was home to her. We also get a grumpy/sunshine romance and I love those. Add a cast of amazing side characters and I definitely can’t wait to travel back to Honeywood.

Summary:
Favorite Book:
All My Rage
Least Favorite:
It’s Not Summer Without You
Most Surprising:
Only When It’s Us

Isabelle

I ended up reading 4 books this month, while it’s still nowhere near what I normally read I’m happy with it for my current situation. It was nice to finish some books again! One eARC, 2 ebooks and 1 backlist book. Let’s take a look.

I Kissed Shara Wheeler – Casey McQuiston

This was such a pleasant surprise! I loved Red, White & Royal Blue but wasn’t sure about this one because of the synopsis. Turns out it was a great read and I really enjoyed it. The characters are flawed, the writing was engaging and I flew through it.

The Summer I Turned Pretty & It’s Not Summer Without You – Jenny Han

With the Netflix show coming up soon we wanted to finally read this series. The books are pretty small so I figured I could read them pretty fast. They were pretty much exactly what I was expecting. I didn’t really like the main character and I’m afraid I’ll like her even less after book 3. Still excited for the tv show though!

Death Note Black Edition vol. V – Tsugumi Ohba

Somehow I still hadn’t read this one. I had to remind myself of a lot of the details haha. But once I got into the story again, I flew through it. It is a bit more of the same but I’m invested and there is only one volume left. I’m excited to find out how it all ends!!
