Yesterday was the first of the month and we talked about the books we received or bought in April. So that means today it’s time to talk about the books we read last month. What did we read? Did we like what we read? Keep on reading to find out all about this in our April wrap up!
Candyce
April was a good reading month for me! I ended up reading 18 books (5 e-books, 4 ARCs, 4 audiobooks, 3 paperbacks, and 2 hardcovers) this month and I’m really happy with that. I really want to read bigger books, so I’m even happier that 7 of them were 400+ pages. Hopefully I can keep this up!
Court – Tracy Wolff
After re-reading Covet last month I finally got to finish Court this month. This book was another emotional roller coaster and so much happened! I loved how the ending was pretty wrapped up, but left us enough room for the next book.
Extasia – Claire Legrand
So I’m not normally a horror reader, but when TBR and Beyond decided to do a group read for Extasia I was curious. Extasia was quite an interesting story with some twists I wasn’t expecting. This wasn’t my favorite book of the month, but I did think it was really interesting. I flew through the 500 pages in no time.
The Spanish Love Deception – Elena Armas
The Spanish Love Deception is a book you see everywhere on bookstagram and BookTok. It’s very hyped and I was actually a little afraid of the hype honestly. While I did enjoy this story and how it ended Catalina annoyed me for a part of the story. Also, I would’ve enjoyed this just a little more if we also got Aaron’s POV.
Mr. Wrong Number – Lynn Painter
Lynn Painter became an auto-buy author after I read Better Than the Movies. Mr. Wrong Number was so much fun! I laughed out loud a lot and could relate Olivia, because I’m quite clumsy as well. And Colin definitely deserves a spot on the book boyfriend list. I’ll definitely be anxiously awaiting this author’s next book.
Dating Dr. Dil – Nisha Sharma
Dating Dr. Dil was an Instagram book club pick and I was really excited about. I recommend the audiobook and the actual physical book. This book had me laughing out loud and I really enjoyed both of the characters.
The Deal – Elle Kennedy
Off Campus is one of my favorite romance series and I decided to do a re-read for a book club. The Deal was just as good the second time around! Garrett and Hannah are such fun characters and I actually forgot quite a few of the details.
Fake & Kate – Tate James
As you saw in last month’s wrap up I was loving the Madison Kate series and this month I finished the last two books. I loved this series and it was a lot darker than I normally read. Tate James is definitely an author that makes me want to read their entire backlist, haha.
Say You Swear – Meagan Brandy
Say You Swear is another book I’ve seen everywhere since it released. I also kept hearing it kept breaking people’s hearts and I was curious. At first it wasn’t that emotional. I was loving the characters and the relationships developing. It does get really emotional and I did shed some tears, but this book was amazing. I would love to see a few characters get their own stories.
The Words – Ashley Jade
April seems to be the month of me reading a lot of hyped books, haha. The Words was another one you saw everywhere. It wasn’t always an easy book to read, because the characters did go through a lot, but the writing was addicting. This 600 page book did not feel that way at all. All the band members now need a book!
The Viscount Who Loved Me – Julia Quinn
Of course I had to read the second book of the Bridgerton series before watching the second season. I enjoyed this book and was actually surprised how many changes were made in the show. Both were really good and I’m excited for more episodes and reading more of these books. I can’t wait for Penelope’s story.
I actually already read Only a Monster earlier this year, but decided to listen to the audiobook this time around and really enjoyed it! There was a group read for this one and I wanted a refresher before participating. Seeing how I read an e-arc it was interesting to finally talk about this book with other readers.
Anything But Fine – Tobias Madden
Anything But Fine was actually a book TBR and Beyond Tours hosted a tour for not too long ago, but I didn’t have time to read the book. So I decided to give the audiobook a go. I can’t imagine what it’s like losing your whole dream by just breaking your leg. Luca definitely has a heartbreaking story, but I think that it focused just a bit too much on the romance for me.
The Duchess Deal – Tessa Dare
Historical romance isn’t my normal go to, but a book club on Instagram does a different type of romance every month and The Duchess Deal was April’s book. I was surprised by how much humor this book had and I enjoyed it a lot more than expected. I’ll definitely have to give more of this series a chance.
The Girl Next Door – Jennifer Hanks
I actually read The Girl Next Door a few months ago as a beta reader. Jennifer is an amazing author and I love being apart of the group that gets to help her make her books even more amazing than they already are. Colin and Millie are amazing characters and I highly suggest reading this one.
Man Down – James Goodhand
I read Man Down for a blog tour, because it sounded really interesting. The main character was apparently the only one to stop something awful from happening and I was curious to see how it played out. While I enjoyed the twist at the end of the story this book just wasn’t for me.
Middle grade books are something that draw my attention and I love trying new authors. Even though I don’t read horror often I tend to make an exception for middle grade, haha. Dread Wood was a very interesting story that if anything made me dislike spiders even more. I did love the great group of children and the friendship that developed throughout the book.
Twisted Heartbreak – N. Isabelle Blanco
Seeing how I’ve been reading more dark romance lately I decided to sign up for Twisted Heartbreak. It was partially what I was expecting, but also totally different. While I really felt the characters’ emotions and loved seeing their backstory there were certain elements that took away the enjoyment from this one.
Summary:
Favorite Book: Say You Swear
Least Favorite: Man Down
Most Surprising: The Duchess Deal
Isabelle
I only finished two books this month, but they were big ones so I’m very happy with it! Slowly I’m reading more and more and while I’m not reading as much as I would like yet, I’m happy with the progress I’m making!
House of Earth and Blood & House of Sky and Breath – Sarah J. Maas
I finally continued reading House of Earth and Blood and I could not put it down! It’s a big book, over 800 pages, but I read it pretty quickly. I love Sarah J. Maas’ books and this was not an exception. Of course I had to jump into House of Sky and Breath right away and I was not disappointed. I didn’t love the smutty scenes but all the political intrigue and the twists were amazing!! Bummer we have to wait until 2024 for the third book haha.
Summary:
Favorite Book: House of Sky and Breath
Least Favorite: —
Most Surprising: House of Sky and Breath
