Review| Hate – Tate James

I think 2022 is going to be a year that I try out some genres I haven’t tried before. A few of my friends have been reading reverse harem romances and I’ve seen the Madison Kate series by Tate James everywhere. The first book Hate has been on my Kindle for months, but I finally got around to reading it. As I’m typing this I’m almost done with the second book, so I think that’s a little hint about how I felt about this book. Keep on reading to find out more about Hate and what I thought!

“Madison Kate Danvers was murdered tonight.”

Those words changed my life, and not for the better.
They were wrong, of course. I wasn’t dead. But I was set up.
After being charged with a string of offences–and made an example of by my political minded father–I’m eventually released back into Shadow Grove with one thing on my mind.
Hate.
Someone is going to pay for derailing my carefully laid out future. Someone is going to catch the full force of my hate. How very convenient that someone just moved into the bedroom down the hall from me.
Archer D’Ath and his boys messed with the wrong chick and they’re about to learn just how cold Madison Kate’s hate can run.

HATE is a full length mature college/new adult romance with enemies-to-lovers/love-hate themes. This is a reverse harem novel, meaning the main character has more than one love interest. This is book one of four in the series.

Review

Going into Hate I really didn’t know too much. I read the synopsis quite some time ago, but went in pretty blind. This was a buddy read, so I read five chapters a day but I was hooked from the start. The writing style pulled me in and kept me going.

Madison Kate is set up for something she didn’t do and when she comes back home a year later things have definitely changed. Let’s start with the fact the men that set her up are living in her house. And her father is in a relationship with one of their mothers. She’s quite a feisty one and I completely understand her hate for the people who she feels responsible for her situation. I definitely felt like she has quite the development in this story. Madison seems to be strong and can take on the world, but she’s also pretty vulnerable.

Hate is definitely a enemies to lovers story. Steele, Kody, and Archer are all fun characters. They’ve all made me laugh and definitely irritated. I can understand Madison’s feelings, haha. There’s definitely more going on and there are quite a few suspenseful moments. I really want to find out more about their secrets. The secrets are going to be quite shocking I think.

As for the steamy moments there are quite a few and the tension jumps off the page. And it’s clear there’s attraction to all three of the men in her life. We haven’t completely gotten to the full reverse harem trope, but we’re getting there! The ending of this book also left me wanting more and I have a feeling this is going to happen with all four of these books.

All in all, a great first book in a series that definitely set up the next part of the story. I’m hooked! Do be aware that there are some trigger warnings, so check those out before reading!

Tate James has become an author I want to read more by. I recently discovered she has quite the backlist, so I’ll be looking more into her other books. But first I’ll be finishing the Madison Kate series. Have you read any reverse harem romances? Any favorites? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear from you.
