Show Sunday | First Impression: One Of Us Is Lying

Yesterday I opened Netflix and saw they dropped the first season of One Of Us Is Lying. I quite enjoyed the book when I read it years ago so of course I’m interested in seeing the tv show. After seeing the first episodes I wanted to give my first impression of the show. So let’s jump in.

A brain, an athlete, a princess, a criminal, and a “basket case” walk into detention – but only the first four make it out alive.

The first season has 8 episodes of about 45-50 minutes each. A second season has already been announced. As there are 3 books with different main characters in the book series I’m interested to see what the plan is for the tv show. This first season covers the whole first book.

It’s been a while since I read the book so I don’t remember every detail. And I think that’s a good way to go into it as I’ve seen people discuss details that are changed. Those changes don’t bother me haha. And as I’ve forgotten quite some things, some of the reveals did take me by surprise.

I went back to my original review of the book and what I liked most about the story was the character development. So far I haven’t really seen that in the show but it’s probably too early to tell. Hopefully we will get some of that development in the show.

I didn’t love the ending of the book as I thought we could’ve gotten a more shocking ending and I’m all for that haha. But since I’ve gotten used to the idea I guess I’m okay with it and would like the see the same ending in the show. It will be interesting to see what the internet has to say about the ending!

So far so good for me. I will definitely continue watching this show and might have it all binged as the weekend is done haha. Have you watched the show yet? Or are you planning on watching it? Let me know how you are feeling about it!

  1. I’ve got 2 episodes left which I’ll watch today! I never read the book and I am enjoying it. It’s not the best series, but I like the characters so far.

    1. I just finished it! It was enjoyable but not great in my opinion. Will watch the second season though! Interested to see where they go next haha.

  2. I didn’t know they were making a tv show. I liked the book except for the ending. The ending kind of ruined it for me. Hopefully, the tv show will handle the ending more tactfully than the author did as I thought it was almost like 13 Reasons Why.

    1. I don’t want to spoil it for you haha, but definitely go and watch it! Would love to hear your thoughts after finishing it.

  3. I kinda liked the direction of the show. I haven’t read the book in ages but there were enough similarities to the book that it didn’t bother me too much either. According to the author, season 2 will divert completely from the books and go their own way

    1. Oh that’s good to know! The ending had me wondering what they were going to do but I’m not surprised they’re diverting away from the books. It will be interesting to see what happens next and if they’ll be able to create an interesting story!
